Equinox
As the only child of a weathly South African expatriate and influential Italian aristocrat, Brandon Logan (Sr) lived a life of privilege and wealth, and had he not caught the attention of certain recruiters of the European Commonwealth, he may have lived and died as one of the political elite, blissfully unaware of the quagmire known as the Great Game. Unfortunately, he did catch their attention, and after a tragic accident that left him with a permanent limp, he joined the Gemeinschaft Consortium. Brandon soon became a rising star in the Consortium, and was oftentimes (derisively) referred to as the "Darling of the Consortium". Some considered him useless as a field agent, given his obvious physical handicaps, but Brandon quickly gained a reputation as a man who could get things, and as a manipulative tactician with foresight that bordered on precognition.
That precognition saved his life and kept his friends out of jail - or worse. Having predicted the downfall of the Conspiracy, Brandon had withdrawn from the Great Game and made arrangements to become the Chief Operating Officer of Fagin's Umbrella, an international aid organization whose public mission was to aid the disenfranchied youth of the world. In reality, the Umbrella would become an underground recruiting ground and asylum for future covert operatives. Brandon often uses the cover identiy "E. Quentin Knox" - so much so that most people don't even know his real name. Most would consider him the leader of the Ultimates, and while it is true that he recruited and assembled the team, the fact remains that the term leader should be used in as loose a manner as possible. When asked, Equinox usually replies that he does favors for people, and they repay him in kind. That those repayments often involve considerable danger and effort is incidental.
If Brandon has any specific motivations for playing the Great Game, he has deliberately kept them unclear. It is clear that he did not want his son (Brandon Logan, Jr.) and his daughter (Rowena Logan) to become a part of the great game. When it became obvious that he would be unable to prevent them from doing so, he arranged to have them train with the rest of the Ultimates. In spite of a great deal of resources and influence, Brandon has been responsible with his power, yet many wonder why someone would go to the trouble of amassing enough wealth and favors to create a Conspiracy of his own, and yet refrain from the personal gain that usually accompanies such endeavors. Only time will reveal Brandon's true motivations.
