Mission Briefing

General Landry summons you all into the briefing room; the sheer number of you present suggests that this could be something major.

"Good morning, people," he begins once you're all seated. "Thirteen and a half hours ago, an SG-1 team departed through the gate bound for P4X-666. As you can see from the telemetry on your screens, it's quite the charming vacation spot.

"The address does not come from the Abydos cartouche, and we have no intel to suggest that it's known to the goa'uld or anyone else we've previously kicked in the ass. One hour ago, the team missed their first scheduled check-in. We were also unable to establish contact with their M.A.L.P, so we launched a U.A.V, which revealed it to be night, local time. Ten minutes into that mission while tracking a sensor anomaly that was our only lead we lost contact with our bird due to its suffering what I'm told was a catastrophic power failure. This is the final intelligible image we were able to recover.

"This IR image was taken at maximum magnification. Our SIGINT people believe it to be an artificial structure of some kind about ten or fifteen miles south west of the gate. The halo effect and the aberrant flare visible at the top is apparently suggestive of an energy field of unknown type, and they found the radiation reading to be of particular interest given the structure's almost total lack of thermal signature and indications that the off-world gate was drawing energy from ours to maintain the wormhole. The Endeavour is en route to P4X-666, but the planet's position on the outer edge of the galaxy means they have an ETA of between four to five days.

"I thought long and hard about whether to send you people in. If we're lucky, it's only a local natural phenomenon. On the other hand, it may be technological and I don't have to tell you how useful that may prove the next time the hornet's nest gets poked. You have half an hour to prep. Good luck and Godspeed."
