Because The Cat Told Me To...

I was extremely tired when I got to bed last night, and perhaps this was why I had such an odd dream. I dreamt that I was a character that was playing in a game run by me. I knew that I was the one running the game, but at the same time I was the player character. And I was running/playing a scenario in my friend's O! Canada! setting, not the Gargoyles game I would be running tonight....

I remembered the scenario well enough that I will be able to run it, especially the opening.

Scene: Woods
A transparent figure tapping on the lens of the digital camcorder and speaking - only his side of the conversation can be heard. The figure is wearing the shirt and pants of an RCMP uniform, no tie, the collar open. It is difficult, but not impossible to read his nametag (Holverton). A barely recognizable regimental tattoo is half hidden by one rolled up sleeve (2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment). The voice sounds more English than Canadian, though some of the colloquialisms are from the Maritimes.

'This thing even on?'

'The light's on the back, and I'm in front of the damned thing! How can I tell, eh? Tell me that! It's your damned camera!'

''T's not like it's going to work anyway! How many times have we tried this anyway, a dozen? Two dozen? It never bleeding works! It's never going to focking work!'

'Of course I'm listening to you! Listening to you's how I got focking dead in the first place! Why would I stop now?'

'It's not like I think hanging around you is what I would choose for jollies either, ya know, mate! We're stuck with each other, and you know it.'

'How am I supposed to know that? It's not like I was the one who set this up, eh? Probably just the logging road.'

'What do you mean wait? Come back here you Separationist bastard!'

Figure runs out of camera angle, shaking his transparent fist.

The camcorder is found with its batteries depleted, not far from a hit and run on a logging road. Wallet and ID was apparently removed from the corpse sometime after the impact.

Anyone else dream adventures? It has happened to me a few times, though not for a year or two, I think.

My dreams are odd. Sometimes something really unlikely happens to make me realise that i'm dreaming, then it becomes a lucid dream. Otherwise, unless I talk about it or write it down, I usually forget within minutes of getting out of bed.

Just had one right now. I was with a group of my friends playing DnD, except all the information was on the ipad. We talked in character via a chat system embedded in it

Then it switched to inside the game

I found out that the city we wanted to get to was west of our current position, but that there was a closer one north west of us that would put us closer to the city and allow for us to rest. I wound up walking us over a mountain where we found two bandits. They guarded a giant chest and a piece of scrap metal. The chest contained the Marbles of one of the party. We picked up the bandit's money, but we didn't have any pockets so it fell out of our hands.

Back out side the game, the GM was a little mad at me for choosing the direct root to the city closest to us. I asked were there any encounters I missed? He said "Maybe... well no not really." He then went on to make lunch for himself when it wasn't really lunch and left perogies on the table.

I have been a lucid dreamer for twenty years. Often I am a witness to my dreams rather than a participant.

Sometimes I miss uncontrolled dreaming, I even miss nightmares, though I am glad to have left night terrors behind. I almost always know when I am dreaming, and the exceptions are always mundane - dreaming that I am at work, etc.. If something odd happens then I realize that I am dreaming. (Including a dream about teaching my class in military science naked. I realized it was a dream, then settled in to see if I had anything interesting to say. My subconscious must get so frustrated with me sometimes. Tongue )

Doesn't prevent insomnia though.

Some of my best dreams come when I'm dozing on the train listening to vocals free music.  One that has occurred more than once is the ball:  Late Victorian dress, bustles, three piece suits, classical music playing.  Then the zombies arrives, generally some fast ones through a window as a door goes.  But it seems this is not exceptionally unusual, and these ladies hide cut down trench brooms in the bustles of their dresses.  I'm not quite sure where the guys hid their heavy revolvers, but those on the balcony are laying down supporting fire very promptly as the dance hall clears.

A few weeks ago I had a dream that I was mellifying a corpse. I'd kind of like to find out if the process in my dream was anything at all like the actual method used.  Undecided The dream involved cedar shavings, balsam gum, myrrh, cinnamon, cloves, and of course two hundred gallons of honey.... So, similar to mummification, with both the cavity and the exterior treated with honey that was allowed to harden.

How to Mellify a Corpse was less helpful than I might have hoped.

Lets see, lets see...

One time got in a fight with a vampire in my "apartment", and killed him via somersault-kick out the 7th-floor window (it was a novice vampire).  Cut away to later, where I have to break into a barn, fighting off his angry friends as I try to steal a mirror.  Scene finishes by big escape by van, one leg kicking a female vampire that was hanging on to the door.  I remember waking up with a gasp, clasping at my neck to make sure I wasn't bitten.

Another time I'm a moderate dog moreau soldier fighting my way through a MegaCorp science facility, blasting flying drones with an M4.  I hurry my way up the floors when I here something big making its way down a hallway, only to see the body of the woman I'm working with lying on the floor ahead of me.  Sensing an ambush, I silently creep down a secondary hallway nearby.  Catching the guards trying to ambush me on the flank, I dodge-shoot two with a short burst each, with the last throwing a grenade at me.  I catch the grenade mid-air, clothesline the guard, and jam the grenade into his mouth before scrambling away.  I wake up just as I pick up the woman.

And then there was a time I dreamt that I was a hot-shot undead hunter, making my way with a group of survivors to a fortified hospital.  The place is, unfortunately, under siege the moment we get there, and I have to help clear the place out.  Just as I make my way back through a hallway with a collapsed ceiling, the zombies break the barricades, and I'm forced to flee.  I had just shot a snobbish business man who was starting to turn and was about to exit the building when I woke up.

One that has stuck with me for a while is one where I somehow got teleported to some sort of elaborate underground cave.  I find out, via pleading-talking-head-made-of-sand-flying-upwards, that a goddess of some sort is holding a seal to eight big bad titans, one of whom is currently using zombies to overrun a base made up of some other people who got transported there themselves.  The base includes part of a trailer park, some scientists, and a battalion from the German Army (I think anyways, from all the MP7s and G36s lying around).  In order to survive, I need to help defeat one of the titans to eliminate the zombie attacks.
After working my way down a cave to catch up to a squad of soldiers that had gone ahead, I find myself fighting for my life against this giant Nurgle's daemon-type thing, fighting off a horde of zombies while I use munitions lying on the dead bodies of the soldiers to damage the titan.  After a few tense minutes, and a truckload of bullets and grenades, the giant rotting thing finally dies.
Unfortunately, the route behind me had caved in.  Fortunately, a glowing circle had appeared where the boss had died.  Stepping into the circle (after refilling on ammo), I started floating upwards in a very Legend of Zelda type way.
Finding myself in a golden garden of some sort, the goddess thanks me for relieving her from needing to hold one of the seals, and that life was now starting to return to the part of the cavern housing the base, creating a clear path to the next evil titan needing slaying.  Giving me a charmed statuette of herself, which she tells me will allow her to funnel power to me, she then sends me back to base.
Back at the base, I find many plants, trees, and vines are now growing everywhere, including a vine ladder to a ledge we couldn't reach before.
Then Ellen Degenrus (sic) pushes me into a lava flow and I wake up.   Tongue

Sometimes my subconscious keeps very strict sleeping schedules.
