Yeah, for two bucks you get some great music. Smiley Well worth the price, several times over.

The album has been seeing a lot of use since I got it.

ByronD over on the E. N. World forums pointed out this collection 99 Darkest Pieces of Classical Music - about ten hours of good background music for $1.99 on Amazon.

Some I already have, and have used in the past - Opus 40, Danse Macabre was used for a dogfight, The Planets for various and sundry - Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age for several Delta Green/Fragile Minds games, Mars, the Bringer of War for many battles. Good stuff!

Thanks for the tip. I've frequently used Holst's Planets as background music in days of yore.

EDIT: Looks like I missed the sale, but it's still only $5.

Yeah, the price has more than doubled, and it is still a bargain! There are some other '99' collections, including a Christmas one that I think is still $2.

The 'Darkest' album sent me looking for more by those orchestras - 'The Planets' selections were superior to the ones I already had. Smiley

The Auld Grump, Pluto is likely to become the theme music for the big bad in my Gargoyles game.

Another good background music collection - 99 Essential Chants. Smiley

Mt. Eden Dubstep has a few that would work best if used as videos, for example Still Alive - not the song from Portal. Good as the intro before the game.

That's the song from the game Mirror's Edge, if anyone's trying to place it.

The stupidly hard to find score to Pitch Black has currently been on high rotation in place as inspiration.

Hmmm, I have never played that game, so it seemed new to me. Smiley

Mirror's Edge is a very Spycraft-friendly setting anyways, and that song's been remixed five different ways to begin with.  Still, a cool song for any soundtrack.

Speaking of Mirror's Edge, you can sometimes find some game soundtracks for free on Fileplanet. They had a feature article about 'em on the site a month or two back and I downloaded quite a few. While some are probably a bit too "gamey" to work in every circumstance, there were some I thought could work with Spy or FantasyCraft. I especially liked the Deus Ex soundtrack (I think its the one for Invisible War) and the Warhammer one (which is full of overwrought chanting voices, which I know people like). If you're curious, try going to the site and searching for "soundtrack" as a keyword. You'll need to fish around a little in your results, but if you're on a budget and want some tunes you could do much worse.
