Oh.. and if you live near a Naval Base.. see if the NMCI is hiring.  From the squids I work with, I always hear the NMCI needs sub-contractors for their desktop support.  (My IT exposure is limited, so on the tip I may not have the most recent of advice.  I work primarily with the Defense Network.)

I've done NMCI work, although that was during the deployment phase.

It's OK money and it does look good on a resume. However it will require a least Secret clearance, and full time desktop support might even require a Top Secret. I know the network and sys admin people did.

I would not be surprised if there's still a need for desk side, the numbers they were bandying about back then were on the low side, it's a higher then normal (although I wouldn't call it high) stress environment (what with people in uniforms carrying guns and Aussie liaison officers in shorts drinking beer at their desks, and an average workforce age that's pushing 60) and EDS is an interesting company to subcontract with. Interesting in the Chinese sense.

Agent 333, are you a programmer or a technician?

Programmer. The tech support side has always seemed... not my cup of tea. I'd like to spend my time developing the software rather than dealing with people... we'll see how it goes.

Out of curiosity.  What sort of programming?  HR Software?  Gaming?  Business stuff?  Gov't?  ..and which language do you prefer?

Real time, system, embedded? Smiley
And I can understand, I never was good at programming. Mainly due to, well, not lack of stick-to-it-ness, but more because I get distracted by other projects and when I side down to program I develop the attention span of an ADD ferret on amphetamines.

God, I am the exact opposite.  When I get into writing my program, hours slip by without my noticing.  I can't count how many times I stayed up past my bedtime without realizing it while I was coding.

I know, I wind up in the fugue state when I'm writing prose - hours slip by and I can not stop and often can only barely resist, but not code.

Egads.. I don't know how you two do it.  Coding bores me.  To the core.  I mean.. dear lord.. I had to do it for 4 classes in my major, I had to take breaks and hit the dojo just to get through the damn tests.  LOL

At least you hit the dojo. I gave up karate after 10 years and started hitting the burgers. I now hate myself.

So here's another thing, don't give up whatever's keeping you fit if you seem to run out of hours in the day Tongue

Ok Koala, I understand if the answer is "I can't tell you", but I have to ask at this point:

Who do you work for? NCIS?

It is like a giant logic puzzle, which is just awesome.  That people pay me for it is even better.

My ideal job would be for someone to sit me down in front of a computer (or better, multiple computers and monitors like in the Matrix for the coolness factor), give me the Software Engineering tools I need (Rational Rose, several programming langauges and any software books I wanted), a program specification and someone I could talk to directly who could make decisions and clarifications on the spec (without needing to consult a committee).  Even better would be if I didn't have to write these silly, mostly pointless reports that take time from the work I should be doing (not that that has ever happened Sad)

That would be awesome   :')...but it may be better I don't have that job.  I could quickly lose the already tenuous grasp I now have on reality.

Busido, Aikido & Tae Kwan Do.

Time to show my ignorance: What is Busido?

My best guess is that it was a typo for Bushido. From what little Japanese I know that is "The Way of the Warrior," but I'm used to it being used in the context of a text or a philosophy, not a martial art.

Please enlighten me.

Yes.  I typo'd.  Bushido.  And yes, in Japan, Bushido is a philosophy.  In the Marines, it's a nickname for a combat art.  And I shortened it.  USMC Bushido.  Semper Fu.  MCMAP.  etc.  I study it with the Marines I work with.  (Plus I learned it growing up, my dad serve 20+ in the corps.)  The 7 .. is it lessons?  traditions? ..something like that.. of Bushido are rolled over to a philosophy of combat.
