Buffy Sings!

Not a single person who knows me and knows how much I love Buffy, and specifically the Buffy musical, thought to send me this URL? You're all fired. You're all frakking fired!

I am so hitting the Pasadena show in September. This is about as cool as it gets.

Hail YouTube!

I'll admit that this is the only episode of Buffy that I recall watching all the way through. Not that I didn't like the show, it just wasn't ever on at times I could see it.

As for going to screenings, we don't have those here. We just have Can't Stop The Serenity screenings each year (just last week, even).

What, they just show the episode on a big screen?  Cry I thought it was a live show... but yeah, it's an excellent episode, and it would be nice to see it in a movie theatre.

I'm a grown ass man and I have no problems admitting that I thought this series was great. This episode in particular was televised genius. I heart the internet, yes I do. Give us a review if you end up seeing this Pat.

eta: nevermind, didn't realize this was just a theatre screening of the episode.

I never watched Buffy despite all my friends saying that I would like it.

Intrigued by the notion that they were doing a musical episode, I decided to watch. (Heck, I'll admit I even like "Cop Rock".)

I was hooked, and I've seen just about every episode (twice) since then (thank the gods for repeats).

I have a theory that every director (that's worth anything) wants to do a big musical number at some point. (So, far I haven't been disappointed.)

Actually, it's an interactive screening - a la Rocky Horror. With the right crowd, this would be amazing.

I'll post a review if I make it to the next local show.

Buffy is pretty much my most formative creative influence. I draw inspiration from a lot of other sources, but in the end I keep coming back to Sunnydale. Beyond the fact that it's triple-tied for the funniest show ever (with Soap and Gilmore Girls), its on- and off-screen social engineering is simply incredible. Every moment of the series that's smudged with Whedon's fingerprints is orchestrated to compel the viewer's unshakable love. It gets under people's skin. It speaks to the heart of everyone. It's mythic scope has such a human face that people forget they're watching genre TV. For all most people fathom when they're in the moment, it's just another day with old friends. That feat is just unreal. It's something I hope to do just once in my life. Any more would be cheating. And only guys like Joss Whedon get to cheat like that.

Holy crap.

Soap? To invoke that show, just upped your coolness level.

That show set my tolerence level really high in regards to what I expect from people that are different from me. Soap is pretty much the gold standard for sitcoms for me.

Perhaps the greatest influence on me (in regards to television) was Dr. Who (Tom Baker), Benny Hill and Monty Python.

PBS used to be cool.

For me as well. There are a number of sitcoms I respect - Cheers, M.A.S.H., Night Court, etc. - but Soap tops the list by far. I was hooked from the first scene and stuck with it all the way through to the unresolved end.

Yeah it was. Doctor Who is my first memory of watching TV. I used to catch it on Saturday afternoons when I was "this high." Tom Baker was in first run then but the Pertwee episodes were still run often enough that I consider him formative for me. The show was certainly an influence, and it remains one of my favorite shows ever, but it never hit the emotional peaks that Buffy scored, IMO.

I don't know...that episode was too corny for me.  The best Buffy episode for me was where the cast was in silent mode.  That was hilarious and very creative!
