not sure how to word this mechanically but here goes

insurance
You have purchased insurance of some kind on a piece of equipment you are carrying. if this gets damaged stolen or destroyed you do not suffer the reputation/net worth penalty.
the of this pick is equal to the caliber of the item you wish insurance for.

Not a bad idea... maybe you claim on the insurance to a new item if the old one gets broke/lost/stolen?

You know.. I like that idea.  It works great as a Resource.  I would even consider making it extendable to a piece of equipment "in the team", instead of just you.  That way, you get your picks worth.  So to speak.

Nice.  How about this for a smoother wording:

Insurance: This resource provides a level of protection in the event your character leaves a piece of equipment behind.  Specify one piece of equipment that would normally cause exposure if left in the field with either a gear pick or Reputation/Net Worth equal or less then to the cost of this resource.  If this item is lost it does not generate exposure.  Alternatively, if the item is liquidated the character may make a Bluff/Deception check with a DC of (Item's Reputation cost + Threat Level + 15). If he succeeds he suffers only half the usual Reputation/Net Worth penalty and only one quarter with a threat. If he fails he suffers the normal penalty and one and a half times the penalty on an error.  On a critical success he suffers no penalty at all and on a critical failure he suffers the penalty times the item's Reputation coast and may not select Insurance again until the he regains the lost Reputation/Net Worth.

The second part seems logical, although it does contradict the no escaping liquidation penalties comment.

How about two different calibers? One is a stand-up "we won't hurt you from wrecking our shit" resource pick, and one is a "not only won't we blame you, but you'll get a replacement next scene" resource pick. Calibers III and V, maybe?

Well, a gear pick that lets you get an automatic replacement seems... off somehow.  It would be useful to a character that gets lots of Resource picks and few other ones, but still it seems off.  Hm...

How about something like this:

Backup Mission Bundle: This resource prepares and prepositions a backup of your mission bundle. This resource may only be selected if your team accepted the mission's bundle. Once per mission you may make a Request check to replace a lost, destroyed, expended, or liquidated item from your team's mission bundle. This resource will allow you to request a piece of equipment above the current mission caliber, as long as it is in your mission bundle. If you successfully request an item from your backup mission bundle, the GC will reduce the mission's base XP reward by 10 x the item's caliber. The cost of this resource is equal to the caliber of the mission.

I'll think about something for normal gear picks.

I'd handle insurance as upgrades - 1 per caliber of item being insured perhaps
