The Speed Racer trailer's up, and... Wow. So not what I was expecting. I don't even know how to process it, though I love the AICN one-shot review: "it felt like a Hot Wheels commercial was aggressively sodomized by ULTRAVIOLET."

LOL! Yup. This thing's either going to own all or explode in the prettiest fire-dance of CGI mayhem we've ever seen.

I have to agree with your estimate, Pat.  That is an enormous rock of fan crack (in every sense of the word.)  It's retro enough that I'm getting a Sky Captain-esque vibe.  The colors are pure Batman & Robin, but in this case, that's actually appropriate.

Dammit, now I'm going to have to give more money to the Wachowskis.

Hehe. This looks like it should be a fun "switch the brain off" movie.

It feels more like Thunderbirds then Sky Captain or Batman and Robin.

Agreed, and I saw both of those in the theatre. I think it actually works really well, too. The show was always a bit over the top, so this will fit right in. Kinda like The Fast and the Furious: The Japanamation Years.

Is the Mach5 a single seater in the movie? Because it looks like it is.

Either that, or it's the way they CG'd in the backgrounds. I'm thinking it will be the latter, judging by the rest of the scenes.

It looks less like Speed Racer and more like a cinematic version of F-Zero.

That, and Matthew Fox's "serious racing face" looks like he's serious constipated.

But, OOH! Pretty colors.

I never much liked Speed Racer... now Racer X on the other hand.... Tongue

Unfortunately my turkey senses are tingling. I predict that there will be a bomb in the theater. One bomb in many, many theaters....

I see trailers like this and I think, all at the same time:

- OMG, that is awesome
- We are such a screwed up species
- Interesting filming effects to make the characters come across as something beyond real.

#2 will probably linger the longest.
