Ideally we'd like to see the core book in most stores indefinitely, with the supplements being stocked in their release windows and as needed. Of course, we understand the realities of gaming retail make this difficult, but it's the ideal. Smiley

I'm doing the best I can, but I'm not the one paying the bills.  However, I do need something to fill in the holes as my 3.5 stock gets depleted.  Wink

(And it's gotta sell better than nWoD.  Sometimes I feel like I'm surrounded by savages.)

It was considered (including naming it "2.1") but we decided that doing so would make people feel like we were 'forcing' them to buy the new version of the book. This is still Spycraft 2.0 - addition of the Crafty logo to the spine, cover clean up to bring it in line with World on Fire's a little more, and decidedly thicker size (product of new binding and paper stock) should be plenty for those in the know Smiley

And of course a new ISBN,

old core handbook: 978-1-594720-37-6 (listed on amazon.co.uk)
new core handbook: 978-1-905471-89-8 (listed on mongoosepublishing.com)

Is there any reason you didn't do something obvious on the cover - like changing the background of the image from green to red - to differentiate the two books?

Yes. Brand and product recognition.

It's trivial to tell them apart on the shelf, one bearing the Crafty, Mongoose, and AEG logos, the other only bearing only the AEG one. And, you know, one's in B&W and one's in color.

Ordering them online should also be simple, since the ISBN and price point are different.

Also recognize that SP is one of the biggest and heaviest books in the industry.

They're charging 20% of cover for direct shipping?

£3 + 20% of total order cost. I have nothing against paying money for books, but their whole p&p charging makes 0 sense to me. Or it does, as I assume that they do most of their shipping towards the US so I guess it makes sense to have that rate a lot more competitive than the corresponding European one. I prefer Amazon, their completely undisclosed formula for figuring out postage costs at least gives me the option of assuming I'm not being fleeced Wink

That said and all minor grumbles aside, very much looking forward to getting these books. Smiley

Edit: the $ prices seem to be like 30% off when converting to Euros.  Shocked

I know this has nothing to do with Crafty, but the favourable exchange rate with the Canadian Dollar isn't hurting from here at all. I'll be picking up everything I haven't yet at what seems a bonus discount. Sweet!

On the other hand, it's hurting Dream Pod 9 and is what killed Guardians of Order.

Assuming the WoF is anything to go by it will be obvious, if you're familiar with it, as WoF has a very glossy finish, compared to the matt of the original SC2.0.
The Crafty/Flaming Cobra logo's would be the big difference at the moment.

You sure? I'm a fan of GOO and they kicked the bucket way before this recent uptick with the CAD being valued 3-10 cents higher than USD. Dream Pod 9 i haven't really paid much attention to since I left Quebec, sorry to hear they're having difficulties (although i have my doubts about those difficulties being a direct result of the CAD's strength).

Yeah, but the Canadian dollar was getting hammered during GoO's prime, going for close to 2 for 1 with the USD.  The CAD's been slowly climbing on the US Dollar for some time now, and that was the only cushion GoO had from the problems plaguing the entire RPG industry.  I don't think it was the only thing that killed them, but I also can't say it didn't contribute.

(If it wasn't a couple weeks away from the biggest shopping season of the year, I'd be seriously debating making a push in house to expand the RPG selection on our website to take advantage of the weak USD right now.)

GoO said as much.  When I get home I'll dig up the farewell notice.

.... the books should be available through Amazon. We can't guarantee they will, as Mongoose is handling sales, but we can't imagine how they wouldn't be.

Amazon.com
Spycraft Version 2.0 (Hardcover)
by Alex Flagg (Author), Scott Gearin (Author), Patrick Kapera (Author)
Availability: Currently unavailable.

How much longer should I be imagining that they wouldn't be?

Amazon UK and Amazon France both have it available (bought from France you'll pay a whopping EUR 64,36 Shocked).
Takes a few week to sail to US, probably the same time that it would take if you ordered from Mongoose.

Amazon.co.uk has had it listed for ages but with a release date of May 2007. So they're running of old information and and old price of £31.99 with a bizarre £1.99 sourcing fee. Not that strange since the book's not quite yet available. I would consider waiting there for up to date information and hopefully the correct price of £25.

I haven't looked at what amazon.com is listing.
