People, please either shrink pictures down to a max width of 800 pixels or drop them behind spoiler tags.

Oddly enough, Flemming wrote that Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

For me, well as a 'daily driver' for a non-vehicle oriented operative, the results of putting the non obvious elements of a police package (reinforced suspension, beefed up brakes, better transmission and engine, light armor in the doors, weapon safe in the trunk, etc) on a good reliable mid-sized sedan would work very well.

For something a little more flash, there's Aston Martins aplenty, but I might prefer something like a 240Z, Barracuda, Sunbeam Tiger, or the like.

For clandestine performance, something like a Ford Focus ST500 or a Mitsubishi Evo VIII or some mundane sports coupe with as much sunk into rebuilding the insides into a race/rally car as the thing cost in the first place.  But leave the body alone, you want a sleeper not a glowing, spinning tuner car.

Actually, if I was going to be outrunning the local authorities, I'd want one of these:

I'm a big fan of the Aston, too. Porsches also sound nice. Smiley

The Atom is a nice car, but if you want pure unmitigated speed and to hell with exposure then consider a Bugatti Veyron or a SSC Aero Ultimate TT.  Both have top speeds over 250mph, 0-60 in around 2.5 seconds (2.46 for the Veryon and 2.78 for Aero).  Shelby doesn't say what the gas millage on the Sero is, but Bugatti lists an EPA millage of 7 city and 10 highway, with a Bugatti supplied top speed millage of 2.

Looks like Grump and I have similar taste in cars...

The 1936 Auburn Speedster, to which the Dusenberg is related.

And Grump, that Morgan is the ultimate hotness!
Ooooo... that one is sweet!

And there's always the original super gadget car.

And the original but not quite original - the car the book and movie were based on, and one of the fastest automobiles of its time Count Zborowski's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

The image leads to a site about the car. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is actually a somewhat dirty joke - a chitty was a day pass, and bang bang was what a soldier was likely to do with it in certain areas of town....

This is actually the Chitty II - the original was eventually cut up for parts, this is the last surviving Chitty of the original builder.

*EDIT* It is worth noting that the makers of the film made a very serious effort to make the movie car authentic, but with all of the modifications she ended up weighing two tons....

See, this is exactly the reason I love our forums no much. Randomly cool facts abound!

Heh, the slight raunch factor permeates the movie as well - most of the tunes were stolen from dirty drinking hall songs, with the lyrics changed about.

'Grow the Roses' for example  is set to the tune of 'Roll Her Over' (Roll her over, yes roll her over, and she will not be a virgin (no she will not  be a virgin) and she will not be a virgin anymore....)

The fact that Broccoli, Flemming, and Benny Hill were all involved with the production has much to do with the choice of tunes. Tongue

Anyone for these?

I love that someone has the Damnation Alley Landmaster sitting in their apartment complex parking lot.  Tongue

Is it a bad sign when I can recognize all four of those vehicles, and remember the shows.

What?  Didn't everyone watch Hardcastle & McCormick, The Monkees, The Munsters and Damnation Ally?  Is the little hovercraft from Ark II?  I'm sure it is.

I know I did, granted they were all on in the 80s.  Boy, I'm dating myself there.  And I even remember Ark II, gah....
