I know this was probably answered on the old boards.

I know that the gadget rules are explicit that you provide the gadget housing.

But what about Miniature Gear Pick -- is the implication there that you get the gear pick with it, or is the mechanism pick just paying for the miniaturization?

The item to be miniaturised comes with the gadget - you have to provide the housing seperately

Miniature Gear is a bad-ass gear pick, sort of a "blank" pick for anything else that can be miniaturized, so long as you include a common item. Miniature gear is really best for Weapon, Security, and Electronics picks, though - you can get your cane-gun, bug-buttons, or hypodermic-cigarettes all very easily this way Smiley

I like tazer-gloves and chemical stun-bracers myself, though armoured dustercoats are pretty sweet too

Just remember that the caliber of the miniaturization gadget pick has to be the same as the original caliber of the thing you're miniaturizing.

THAT'S spelled out pretty clearly... no question there. Smiley

It does seem to make Gadget picks a bit of a bargain unless you are hard up for common items. And also seems to make faction preferable to freelance if you have a charisma bonus at all.

Of course, gadgetized firearms aren't exactly competition grade pieces of equipment.

Understand that what you are getting is a gadget mechanism that has the game-mechanics behavior of another item of equal caliber. It's not the same item. You can't get a license for m-16-like gadget mechanism. What it comes down to is if the gadget is found, there's just no polite way to talk around "What the hell is that, and what are you doing with it, sir?"

Good take on it Morgenstern, never thought about it like that. Be assured that my players will not be too happy about this new view. Wink

It may seem like a bargain until you learn that your organization only has 2 ranks in Tools/Gadget.  Or maybe that awesome plane or gun you REALLY wanted isn't available becuase your organization's Vehicle or Weapon rating is too low.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Gadget option, but sometimes those freelance operatives get to carry around things that the faction superiors can't or won't provide.

Ok all this sounds great.  Here's my question:
Miniature gadget pick:  armor.
How do I adjust the penatlies, weight, etc?

You don't. Miniture gear mechanisms share the game mechanics of the similar standard item other than their size, weight, and ease of identification.

You don't, except for the weight aspect.  The weight is reduced by half, but keep in mind that this is not the same as taking the Weight Reduction upgrade.  Otherwise, it is treated just like if you were wearing that armor as per normal.  Nobody would immediately know that your suit also doubles for a biohazard suit.

Thank you. by "you don't" you both meant "I change the weight, lowering it by half, but leave all the other stats the same." awesome.
