Alright, so as expected Skyfall is busting records worldwide, and it's a safe bet many of you have already seen it. Bully for you. I'll be up in Portland, OR with Alex over opening weekend here in the States - that's November 9 for those of you in other territories, and we obviously want to avoid being spoiled on it (any more than we already have by the trailers), so here's a whole thread for you to go wild in. Have fun and feel free to speak candidly about the flick here.

Now then, I intend to avoid this thread entirely until I've seen the movie. Until then, have at! Smiley

Just back in from watching it (had to pass on VIP advance screening tickets in London a fortnight ago!).

Great film. Love all the nods to older films and the way they've developed the characters (and introduced new ones). Only one twist I didn't spot until about 30 seconds before it happened but they are all good Smiley

Can't wait for the DVD release so I can watch it again Wink

Excellent film all the way around.

Some of the nods to older films just made a lot of people in the theatre I saw it in say things like: "Nice", "Ahh", "Nicely done."

Everything was developed well and the twist while seemingly small had a very massive effect on the rest of the film.

Dug it. Tired. Spycraft Third development notes tonight and first proper playtest tomorrow.

More later, if I have time.

Best Dainel Craig Bond movie yet. Digging the new Moneypenny and M. Sad to see Judi Dench go though. The new Q is a little too smarmy for me.
Best line in the movie?

I do have to admit it was nicely done the way they dealt with him breaking clean from the past.

An interesting review, with significant spoilers

I'm still going to see the film, but my god that review doesn't do it any favours. That is some rather hinky shit, and this review isn't the first I've seen pointing it out.

OTOH I actually like QoS, and I think the reviewer is overlooking that it is in effect Casino Royale Part II

I really liked the movie for the fact that it was the new kind of bond with a lot of very good references to the old one.
Additionally, if this is the end of Craig, it's a good wrap-up.
A potential critique might be the fact that it's very much like other modern action movies,
but I didn't find it a problem.

Still don't love the Craig bond, but it was better than the first 2 craig Bond flicks, and I appreciated the secondary character development.

Having a convincing villain goes a long way in my book.

Of course, Q's gaffe of hooking an unsecured system to vital servers is something no competent espionage IT person would ever do. But Hollywood continues it's naive treatment of IT.

...and a lovely counterpoint in the form of an interview with director Sam Mendes, whom I think did a wonderful job.

I adore Skyfall. There's the usual assortment of minor quibbles, but in the end I welcome all the changes, all the choices, and even the mistakes and missteps.

Skyfall's in my Top Five Bond movies. So is Casino Royale, along with On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Goldfinger, and either You Only Live Twice or Goldeneye, depending on my mood.

On a related note, has anyone played 007: Legends yet? I have it but haven't had the chance to crack it, and a friend was telling me that his sense is that it was put together the way it was to give the sense that a lot happened to the new Bond in the period between Quantum and Skyfall - potentially even some or all of the movies from before the reboot. It's an interesting idea, and if true it offers a lot of insight into what they're striving for with this new era of the franchise.

Saw it yesterday with my dad, Mr. Late To The Party me.  Had fun, though the part in the beginning (when Moneypenny tried to take the shot) made me blurt in the theater.

M- "Take the bloody shot!"
*Moneypenny shoots, hits Bond*
*A whole minute goes by with all the dramatics of Bond falling into the water*
*Show a whole 30 seconds of Moneypenny standing there, all stunned and stuff*
*Show a whole 30 seconds of guy she was aiming at standing there on the train before he ducks into the tunnel*
Me- "You could have taken two!"
*Theater laughs*
