Peter O'Toole, 81.

Don't know who he is? Go watch Lawrence of Arabia. Seriously.

Or The Last Emperor.
Lads, there goes a genuine manly bastard.
Hats off to him.

He certainly knew how to make an entrance!

Another one for today - Joan Fontaine, sister of Olivia de Havilland and brilliant actress in her own right.

The Lion in Winter is my all time favorite movie.

I watch it every year, around Christmas.

Be at peace, Mr. O'Toole.

I don't know how the story ends...
But I do know what happens next.

They're coming thick and fast at the moment...

Ronnie Biggs, train robber

There's a description you don't see any more.

Numerologist and con artist Harold Camping may or may not have predicted this date.

Meh.

Might be my bias against AKs talking, there.

It is.  The AK - or rather the mass production of various AK clones - changed war from something fought by the wealthy to every tin-pot dictator having more fire power than they knew what to do with.

There are much better rifles; however, there are few that are as durable and forgiving.  Though the AK and cousins are less accurate at distance.

Heck, we can dig him up in two years and he'll be good as new.
