Incidentally, I wanted to share a problem I've had trying to order the hardcover edition.  I tried to order it on Sunday, but found that Paypal (which is the only option for processing a payment to you guys) would not accept the credit card I was trying to use.  I tried multiple times, but the transaction wouldn't process.  Very frustrating.

Thankfully, one of my FLGS's proprietor is being extremely nice and is going to order a copy of the hardcover, with pdf, from your site for me and have it delivered to his store and then let me come in and buy it from him.  I informed him I'd pay for the cost of the book, the shipping, and several dollars extra to make it worth his while to even do this for me.

But I wanted to share this to bring it to your attention that though I wanted to buy the hardcover book from you, I almost literally could not do so.

Why didn't Paypal accept your credit card?

That's odd. Would you mind dropping me an email with relevant details (so they're not out in the open)? I'd like to research that a bit.

Glad your store offered to grab the book for you. Please thank them for us, and be sure to pass along my email address to them as well in case they need anything.

That is pretty cool of them. I know one of the local stores around here is doing a release promotion with Brandon Sanderson on hand to sign the books. They are accepting preorders at the store for the hardcovers that will get a poster of the Chart of Allomantic Metals ($10 value) tossed in for free. It helps that Brandon only lives about 10-15 miles away. If I hadn't already pre-ordered through Crafty Games, I would be mighty tempted to go that route. In fact, if I didn't have a family vacation planned to leave that morning, I would probably pre-order a second copy and show up.

Okay, email sent and I'll pass on your email to the store owner, Pat.

I have no idea why Paypal wouldn't accept the card.

Applications burp and sometimes they need a binkie. We'll figure it out.

It may also be your bank or card issuer denying the transaction.

There were more than enough funds available, so no reason for that.

For what it's worth, I've had my bank deny transactions without it being related to funds.  In both cases it had something to do with the place I was making the purchase from making one of those $0.01 charges at the same time as they charged the price of the purchase.  I'm not sure what the purpose of the $0.01 is, I know some companies charge it when you assign a credit card to an account (Xbox Live, for instance) to confirm that it's correct and active, but these two instances were at the instant of making a purchase - my bank flagged it and shutdown the transaction (without giving me any notice, mind you).

It's also possible if you're from a non-US country that your bank has something weird going on for US purchases (something to do with currency conversion would be my guess).  I've seen that happen to friends before.

Just some ideas - financial institutions often do things that make no sense to us regular folks.

I've had this happen when I purchased stuff from Europe, so yeah, I can confirm it's a thing.

We're working on this. So far it fortunately appears to be limited to just a couple folks. As far as we know, everyone else's orders are coming in just fine.

Or perhaps a brief update on the shipping progress (ie 50% have shipped, 90%, whatever)?  Basically, should I be looking for my book next week or next year...

Apologies. I'd meant to post an update but this week's been murder (staying on top of things at the office and trying to push out the books at the warehouse).

About half of the orders have gone out now, and we expect the rest will go out early this coming week. As usual, there were unforeseen glitches in the process (the rule of thumb is take any estimate you have and triple it, then double to triple it again if it's your first time, which this was). On the up side, the process is streamlining pretty easily, and as learning curves go this one's been pretty tame.

We'll definitely post to the blog when the last of the current orders are out the door.
