Question concerning the hardcover
« on: June 26, 2012, 03:56:36 AM »
Hi there,

I saw your youtube unpacking video  ;D The softcover looks very nice! But i am a bit worried about the book holding up under use because it is quite thick. So now i am contemplating buying the hardcover version.

Two questions:

1.) is the hardcover book the same format as the softcover?
2.) is it true that the hardcover will only be available through your store? So i have to buy it here? If the answer is yes, can you tell me what the international shipping will cost me? (i fear too much to make the purchase reasonable  :'( )

Thanks in advance.

Shinrei

1.) is the hardcover book the same format as the softcover?

The contents are the same, yes. The format differs in that the hardcover has a fabric cover and a stamped spine, and is wrapped in a traditional hardcover novel dust jacket. The hardcover also features two full-color endsheets - one at the front displaying the Allomantic Table of Metals, and one at the back displaying the never-before-seen (except on our Facebook Page) Feruchemical Table of Metals.

Yes, it is true that the Deluxe Hardcover Edition is only available directly from us. Shipping to everywhere is calculated directly with the carrier(s) and includes *zero* markup from us. That is to say, you pay exactly what you would pay to the carrier of your choice to ship the book yourself from our location to yours.

As shipping is calculated via API and involves your address, we recommend you walk through a purchase of the hardcover on the purchase page, but don't complete the sale. That will show you how much the shipping will be, and you can make your call from there.

If you want to change your order, drop us a line and we'll get it arranged.

Thanks Pat!
I think my first question was unclear. What i meant to ask was: does the HC have the same measurements as the SC (aka is it also in that smaller format - something like 6 x 9 instead of 8.5 x 11)?

I will look into the shipping cost. But if you do not have a special carrier-deal, the price will most likely be in the 30 - 40$ range, which is too high for me (the book would cost me ~ 80$).

The softcover and the hardcover interior pages are both 6" x 9". The hardcover boards are a bit bigger, as usual for hardcovers. :)

Yeah, we're too small for the carriers to consider special rates for us. Sorry!

Thanks again for the fast reply, Pat. Highly appreciated!

I checked and the cheapest shipping to my part of the world is 30.44$.
And no need to apologize. I guess i am just spoiled by amazon and bookdepository who can offer very reasonable shipping charges (or are even shipping for free, in case of Bookdepository). As i am a student, i am really glad for that...because money is always in short supply.

I guess i will have to wait and see if one of those two stores will sell the softcover *keeps fingers crossed*

Btw, is the HC a limited time deal? Or will it stay in CG shop for as long as you sell the Mistborn Game?

We sympathize, believe me. You wouldn't believe how much we pay in shipping just to receive books back from the printers, let alone get them anywhere after that.

We suggest letting them know you're interested, and placing an order directly through them if you can. Every sale through an FLGS improves our chances of keeping our books in stock there. :)

While there's no time limit, the edition may sell out. If that happens deep enough into our license period, or some other reason crops up to prevent us from reprinting, then it's possible we won't be able to offer it any longer.

We're not there yet, though the the pre-orders were healthy and we're already through a strong percentage of the first printing.

Mr Crafty_Pat, have you received the softcover books from your printers yet? If yes, you could make it an anouncement on your front page... It would be neat to know!

After all, we're all anxious to have the books in our hands ;-P.

Not to threadjack, but... Have the softcovers begun shipping out?  I sprang for faster shipping, so I was hoping there was a decent chance I'd have it by the weekend.  Also, are the hardcovers still looking good for around July 9th?  (yeah, I bought one of each.  I'm a big Sanderson fan and a bit of a collector)

We've been working through the shipping pile today (it's big) and are hoping they'll be going out tomorrow or Thursday, depending on how the pile reduction initiative goes :) This is our first major shipment so we're still experiencing a few kinks.

As for the Hardcovers, as far as we know we should have them in hand on the 9th. That pile is *HUGE* however so it will take a few days to get them labeled, packed and shipped.

Probably. I own the camera, but Pat and Erik are dealing with the pallet+ of hardcovers, so the scale of the product to be shipped won't come across....

That is a pretty meaty looking book.  Looks like good production quality too, from what little can be seen on a vid.  Bodes well for future products (especially ones that might be equally thick).  Looking forward to seeing the hardcover (just wish I could have Spellbound in HC too).

Thanks for the enthusiasm, and apologies for not posting to the front page. We reserve that for the very biggest stories and updates, rather than general updates. We do also have a blog, though I see we didn't repost the unboxing vid there either (we did post about the softcovers' arrival, however, back on June 21). Our bad. Alex posted it to Facebook initially, which makes posting back to the site tricky (the site auto-feeds to Facebook).

Probably. I own the camera, but Pat and Erik are dealing with the pallet+ of hardcovers, so the scale of the product to be shipped won't come across....

I'll try to remember to take some pics, or maybe some vid with my phone.

Thanks! We're very proud of our products and feel their production quality is the second most important thing we can invest in (after content). :)

Can't wait for the hardcover unboxong.... and arriving! No need to rush with my hard cover, they take forever to get to NZ anyway, so you have my official permission to leave mine til last! ;) Probably not Wolverine's though, he might not be as relaxed  ;D
