I was running a digital thumb through my core book today when I started to wonder about all the different possibilities for characters of very unusual races/species.

Say I wanted to make a playable species with the Ooze type. What would be the best way to build such a thing? Or what if I wanted to make a really strange, alien species and give it the Horror type? What would be some good options?

One possible "Playable Ooze" might look like this

(1) Type: Ooze    Base Speed 40    Large (1x1;2x1;2x2), Reach 1
(2) +4 (Constitution), –2 (Intelligence), –2 (Wisdom), –2 (Charisma)
(1.5) Darkvision II
(1) Natural Attack I: You gain a Grade I Slam natural attack.
(1) Multi-Armed: You may simultaneously hold and arm up to four 1-handed, two 1-handed and one 2-handed, or two 2-handed weapons or objects. You also gain a +1 bonus with skill checks made as part of a Grapple action if two or more of your hands that are free. If you gain the Many-Armed feat you lose these benefits and the lower of your Strength of Dexterity rises by 1.
(3) War of Attrition: You may tire up to 3 opponents at once (see FC, page 221). You roll only once for the action, while each opponent rolls to resist separately. If you gain this ability from two or more sources, the number of opponents you may target increases by 1 for each additional war of attrition ability.
(-0.5) Achilles Heel: Double damage and no resistances against one damage type that inficts lethal, stress, or subudal damage (Cold)
(-1) Reviled: the disposition of non-race decrease by 10.
(-1) Lumbering: Can be flanked by any 2 adjacent opponents, -2 to reflex saves.

I have now, thank you.

Welcome to the slippery slope Smiley

No kidding.

I like what you wrote-up; it looks like it would be good for a heavy hitting tank character with some choice feats. There are probably a lot more possibilities to explore, and I think I'll try to cook something up but it probably won't be tonight.

I'm thinking the Horror species would be something sneaky and good at secretly murdering folks...

Would be fantastic for a sentient ooze magic-user.

My take on Changelings has the Ooze type, players seem to like the little touches it adds to a shapeshifting race.

So a xenomorph?
Sorry, I just watched Prometheus, so I have that universe on the brain Tongue

Now that I think about it, pressurised acid for blood would be absolute murder and destruction in a world where most weapons are melee... (sure there are spellcasters and all, but still)

I was actually imagining something more average sized and not so much insect as... a gastropod/cephalopod/primate mix. Like a baboon made nasty with a snail and the result got a squid stuck on its head.

...

I'm sorry Embarrassed. No one deserves that kind of imagery being forced on them.
