If you're looking through our Gen Con 2012 event schedule you may be asking where all the Spycraft events are. The answer is simple: Spycraft is taking a single year off from the show as we ramp up to Third Edition, which will be arriving in 2013. You can expect bigger and better espionage events at next year's show, where Spycraft and Ten Thousand Bullets will be front and center.

We encourage you to attend our Crafty Games Declassified seminar on Thursday from 3-5pm. Spycraft and 10kB will be the main focus of that event, and in fact it will be the first place we discuss some of what we have in store for the return of the world's greatest espionage RPG.

Thanks again! We look forward to seeing you in August.

!?
Wait, is the Majestic finally making his casually impeccable debut?
And the rest of the heavy weapon Ranged Combat feats?!

So here's the reality of the situation. World on Fire is and must be a pretty low priority. Between Spellbound and firing Fantasy Craft back up to full production I have to put aside my desire to (finally) finish Born of Ashes and the few related releases in that line and focus my efforts on making rain where we need it most.

Sadly, World on Fire has also not something I've ever been able to hand off - not for lack of trying but because everyone who's either offered or been offered to help close it out has taken a look at my notes, considered the enormity of the project, and backed away slowly with fear and incomprehension in their eyes. It's understandable - it's all derived from the largest, most complex outline I ever produced for AEG - but still, it's demoralizing.

Alex and others have (perhaps rightly) tried to talk me into simply letting the project go, and the closer we get to Spycraft Third Edition the more than may have to become a reality for practical reasons. For the moment I'm holding out hope that I can squeeze it in late(r) this year, but we'll see.

Really? If you don't see it in 2013 it's probably never going to happen - which may be for the best for everyone. We'll see. There's still months, but only months.

The Truth, it burns.
But it is the truth, and I thank you for delivering it.
Hmm.
About my only input is asking about perhaps a pdf of the crunchy bits to round out what few feat chains remain undone thus far -something about Guided Weapons Supremacy makes me salivate.

I do get that World on Fire is event-horizon huge, like once you dedicate energy to completing it you can't tell when it will end, and it can be back-burnered for as long as needed (like anyone needs my permission Grin).
Really great fluff never really dies unless it's given up on. It doesn't seem to me like Crafty Inc gets much downtime, but who knows? The Nightfall Novella was good, maybe there's a Spycraft-brand novel or two that could happen some time. Games Workshop's done well with the whole Black Library thing after all.

Regardless, thanks for informing me/us, our thoughts remain positive. Cool

If, I mean really if, you're not able to finish World on Fire, is there any chance you would share at least part of your notes?

Unlikely. I learned years ago that anything short of a finished product simply isn't worth releasing.

If this doesn't get out in some form it will hurt no one more than me. I spent seven years at AEG doing exactly what I was hired to do, and in most cases it proved impossible. The number of projects I wasn't able or allowed to finish is truly staggering, and I've always viewed World on Fire as a final chance to make good on that, or at least draw some satisfaction from one isolated resolution.

In this case the conservatives and pragmatists are right, however - with Spycraft Third Edition on the horizon the time for anything Spycraft 2.0-related is drawing to a close, and unless I can find a way to get it done this year, it's best to leave it in the past and focus on the future.

I'm not done yet - just recognizing that I may have to be sooner than later.

And FWIW, I want Pat  to be able to finish WoF more than anyone else, for those reasons. The argument here is not against the material, just the clock. Both of us want the best for the company, and will continue to scratch the creative itches when they don't interfere with its success (see 10kB for my own symphony of pain).
