Adding to a spiked rating.
« on: March 03, 2012, 09:23:36 AM »

Alright, the rules state that if you gain allomantic power from a spike you can never increase that power.

My question is, what happens if you have both natural and hemalurgic powers with the same metal? Can you enhance up to a total rating of 10? up to 10+the spike's rating? what?

To make this clearer:
Coinshot Sasha Mance (A: 5) is captured by the Steell Ministry. She escapes, but has a memento in the form of a spike granting her Steel 4. So her total Steel rating is now 9.

Case A: She can spend 6 Advancements to enhance her natural Allomancy to 6, granting her a total of 10.

Case B: She can, over the course of several sessions, spend 30 Advancements to enhance her natural allomancy to 10, granting her a total Steel rating of 14.

Based on my interpretation of the RAW I would say it is the latter. I know for a fact that you can increase an allomantic power beyond the normal limit of 10 with a spike (see Marsh pg 499) so I don't see why you can not do so after the spike has been added.

It's the latter. The point is you can never increase the *spike's* rating after it's created (subject is dead, power is static). If you look in the Heroes of the Mistborn Trilogy section of Book 3, you'll see Zane is rocking a Steel rating over 10, thanks to...stuff.

In my PDF he has a flat 10, 5 from being a mistborn and 5 from a spike. Will this be changed in the final printing?

um, it wasn't

Then I must've decided not to increase it beyond a base rating of 5 :)
