I'm going to take a minute to address the broader problem you're having, because I have an idea regarding that.

That is, give them some premade characters, and run a published adventure with this group.  The Cleansing of Blackspur is quite good, and it's only $6.  Or if you have one from another system, you could adapt that as long as it's not an old school style adventure where the goal is to punish the players for daring to play this game.  This way, the only thing they have to learn  right now is the dice mechanics, and they get to see how actual gameplay goes.  If they like it, then they'll probably be more inclined to tolerate learning and using more of the rules.  And if they don't, then there probably wasn't much hope to begin with, and at least you tried.

We've already gone far enough into character creation that i really just cant do that anymore. that said, every single one in this thread kind of assumes that prizes and renown have to stay in the system, but personally i think that the core ideas works without the reputation/renown system, and I guess I'll try it.

PS: on an off tangent, i let my players pitch in as to what non-human races the setting would have, since in my setting document i purposefully left out all non-human races, and two of the players REALLY wanted catfolk. During character creation i didn't really touch this and let them pick human talents instead, but if someone has written up houserules for catfolk im interested.

P.P.S: also, there is no decent swashbuckly type base class, anybody have something for that as well?

Cat people.

For swashbuckling, what you're looking for is a class that gets plenty of skill points, and skills you think of as being swashbuckly.  Burglar, Explorer, Sage, and probably Scout should all do fine with that.  Martial Artist might work as well, and Soldier can also work.  Beyond that, it's mostly about tricks and feats.  Cheap Shot, Daunting Shot, Parry, Ragged Wound, Salt the Wound, Shove, and Whirling Strike all seem very swashbuckly to me.  And that's not even considering the 4 pages of tricks in AC.  For feats, Combat Instincts, Contempt, Expert Disarm, and the Blocking feats from AC are good places to start.  Also most Style feats, most Chance feats, and appropriate weapon feats like Fencing plus Knife or Sword, or Whip plus Flail for Whips.  So with that in mind, I recommend Explorer for swashbuckling.  It gets Athletics and Prestidigitation as class skills and bonus Chance or Basic Combat feats.  I recommend adding Intimidate and Bluff as origin skills.  Martial Artist and Soldier get bunches of combat feats and proficiencies they can turn into tricks, you just have to find a way to make the skills work for you.

Edit: Said keeper, meant explorer

Any class armed with a fencing blade, a buckler, and a lot of boastful attitude is a swashbuckler.

If you mean a dexterity based combatant, pick up a finesse weapon and the Deft Swing trick. Then add in the appropriate weapon chain, Lightning Reflexes, the Parry trick, and whatever else suits your fancy. Don't skimp on Acrobatics, Impress, or Bluff. The Repartee chain fits it too. Intimidate is worth it too. Focus on Defense over armor.

The Soldier and Martial Artist are obvious choices, but any class can pull it off since it's more about attitude and a finesse weapon then anything else. My current game has a Priest of Cayden Caileen (from Paizo's Golarion) fitting the archetype.

Most of FantasyCraft is designed to do that.  Let us know how it goes: I'd be personally interested in the possibility of cutting back on using that part.

Getting rid of it entirely should be simple enough.  For the classes that get points of Renown, I would replace that with a bonus feat.  For classes and origins that get cheap renown, I would just ignore it, that's not such a big deal.

It's using part of the system that gets more complicated.
