Somewhat back to new GM advice...

The Sliding DC table.

Learn it, love it. It will save your bacon time and time again when they players suprise you.

@Gentry:
But then...what?  The GM has to spend their time writing out how each option works and then calculates them once someone makes a choice?

If you think that method is the way to go why not instead of pre-gens the community puts together the type of packages necessary to at least take some of the burden off the GM?

There is an entire thread over in License where people were creating the expert classes as shown in the book as full on "pregens".

I'm not sure what you're asking me to explain. Have you read through the thread on Kruelos' quick-PC-gen demo kit?

Yes.  The mechanics still need to be written out on the cards in that system.  It would be useful to new GMs if there were cards they could download and print to save that time.

That's certainly true. Of course, doing such copying would do a new GM good, too. There's a reason repetition works as an educational tool.  Smiley

As to downloads, I bet if we stroked Kruelos just a leeeetle more...

I've been hesitant to do that without permission from the Crafty guys, also I think there's probably some benefit to a given GM deciding which origins he wants available for fast-play characters.

Mainly the issue for me is time.

Give me a refresher. What's the potential concern here?

Likely the fact that it would be printing large chunks of game mechanics from the books on printable cards.

As I understand it:

They are talking about the card system discussed here: http://www.crafty-games.com/forum/index.php?topic=5902.0

Basically, some origins and feats are printed on cards.  New players pick one Talent/Species card, one Specialty card and a Feat Card.

The concern is the card reprints material from the book so he has been hesitant to release those cards to the public.

Although it's not like making available a lot of pre-gens wouldn't be doing more-or-less the same thing.

Right, this is essentially it. I'd thought about only using origins and feats from already-published PreGen characters as one workaround.

But again, mostly it's that I've been crushed for time.

Yeah, I'm afraid that would be out. The iconics work in part because they're only showcasing a small slice of the overall package, and also because it's being repackaged in a very specific way. What you're describing here would definitely cause problems for the official brand, and we'd have to decline. Sorry.

That's pretty much what I figured. Hope you can still make use of the idea for 10kb demos though.

It's a wicked cool idea. Hopefully we'll get to use it in some capacity at some point.
