Page 221 of FC, 'Advanced Actions and Tricks':

"Most of these maneuvers operate like actions, though many also require a character to have a forte with the weapon category to use them."

I think I understand that, but I'm confused over what the correct "weapon category" is required... does that just mean you need a forte with the weapon in use while performing the action/trick in question?

So:

Arrow Cutting
Initiative Action (Forte)

Does this mean that if the character is wielding, say, a Blowgun... that the character must have a Forte in the 'Hurled" weapon category in order to perform the action?

Correct.

We get that a lot. It's one of those oddities about our rules - they tend to creep up on you. Smiley

Well they're creeping up in a good way!  I'm really enjoying the more "narrative" approach you guys took; and the Worlds section is just full of brilliant awesomeness!

I like the game, very much. I also like that much of it is in fact OGL, a primary consideration when I made the purchase.

I don't like the way Crafty Games is outright and knowingly lying to their fans regarding legitimate Use of OGL content, and even going so far as quietly deleting a perfectly rational dialogue concerning Licensees' lawful Use-rights bestowed by the Open Content material designated in the FantasyCraft rulebook.

Your internal policy to actively discourage potential legitimate Licensees' should be reevaluated.

I will not be purchasing any further products from you, and I am upset enough to open threads on other forums to explain what happened here.

What you're calling a "perfectly rational dialogue" was teetering pretty close to "flame war", in my opinion (hence why I stayed out of that debate originally; that and a lack of legal expertise, anyway).  And although some clarity on the issues that were raised around OGL position might be helpful, I think you might be going quite a bit far here to go assuming premeditated malice with your accusations of "outright and knowingly lying" etc.  It's fine to ask why the thread was deleted, but it's not fine to go making hostile assumptions about it.

Also, if you're going to challenge the maker of a game to explain their stance, might it not help if you start by assuming that any contradictions you see are benign mistakes, either on your part or on someone else's, before you begin leveling accusations, never mind threats to badmouth a company to the world at large?

At this point, post your BAR credentials or please stop trying to be an RPG Forum Copyright Lawyer.  I would say the deletion (or moving, I didn't check) of the topic is seen as rationally intelligent given 1.)  This isn't a US Copyright Law forum, 2.)  Most of us (if not all) are NOT copyright attorneys, 3.) the topic tends to lend itself not to clearing up the scenario but to more confusion and worthless debate.

The US Copyright Laws are vast, confusing and so complex that it takes specifically trained lawyers to decipher and enforce them.  And the OGL, OGC are no exception.  From what I understood of the last topic, the masses had an understanding and the topic was closed.  This.. *points to the above post* is borderline nonsense.

P.S.  If the crafty bunch finds this post harsh or just something they'd like to address, feel free to delete / edit my post.  I'm just tired of reading the third string, couch lawyer-ing / assault on a hobby company I enjoy.

Hello mbrad,

I am drafting a private message to address your concerns. To prevent a flame war, I am locking this thread.
