James Cameron's Cirque du Soleil "Worlds Away" 3D Official Trailer: Is it just me, or does that opening curtain shot look particularly... vaginal?

Sessions actually looks funny and definitely original enough that I'm not surprised it got lost in the summer film hype fest.

Man with Iron Fists is just going to be fun. Certainly proves Russell Crowe feels his legacy is well established enough he can just have fun with a film and not affect his career. Batista formerly from WWE as the golden man will make an impression. Looks like they got the humor in it too. I'll see it.

I remember reading the news article about that actual event. I never thought it would be made into a film but yeah, that event happened as a prank. They just took a much darker and sinister tone with it for the film.

So I saw Prometheus yesterday. It's not bad, but it's in no way going to become a cinema classic.

The whole Weyland subplot was an exercise in rinse and repeat, wasn't it? Not just in general principle, but quite specifically both the Tyrell/Replicant confrontation with God to demand an extension of life and the question of whether a character is a real live person from Scott's own Bladerunner. Apart from the possibility (removed in interviews) that David deliberately fucked his 'father' over -- and in so raising triggering one of my major cinematic bugbears of Not Using Subtitles -- there was nothing new to be said on the topic.

Yet again we get a bunch of bunch of space arcaeologists and explorers whose safety precautions against biological contamination are largely laughable, including the usual "Fuck the police, I'm taking my helmet off!" rebel and lack of processes for safely passing alien material/potentially biocontaminated party members back into the ship.

David -- the 4th artificial person of the Aliensverse -- was an interesting mix of Ash and Bishop, and very suitably creepy in the way you'd expect an android to be. His screwing over of the crew was too inevitable for my tastes, simply because too many of them had it coming and pretty much none of them were likeable or with personality enough for us to actually care about their fate.

I was disappointed when Vickers turned from a Ripleyesque character doing her job did a face-heel turn into self-interested Bourke territory during the final act in an attempt to make her frankly ludicrous death -- yes, run in the same direction the giant space ship is rolling instead of away to the side! -- somehow fitting instead of the tragic culmination of her father's abysmal attitude towards her.

The ending, where Shaw abandons her enlightenment -- expressed by her demand that David ask who created the Engineers -- to reiterate her partner's 'I'm a human and you're just a robot' dogma instead of asking "wouldn't you?" or "maybe we can make them change their mind again" was a disappointing choice, but honestly not that surprising coming from the pen of one fo the creators of Lost.

I saw Spider-Man earlier today, and I enjoyed it a whole lot.  I like Raimi's first 2.5 (there was some great stuff in 3, and some terible), so I had some degree of doubts about this iteration, but I thought that was was a really well executed reboot / new origin tale - and in many ways was more the Spider-Man I like.  I'm well looking forward to the inevitable sequel (as set up by the mid-credits sequence that you should make sure you stay for, if you see the film).

It also didn't hurt that the entire cast was, in my opinion, pretty spot on.

While the real thing turned out to be a prank, it wouldn't have surprised me if those events had ended up being real.  Just based on Stanford and Milgrim.  Has a lot of potential as a film though.

The event it is based on was way more than a prank. If anything it's likely that while the movie's more ominous and atmospheric than the actual location, a McDonald's restaurant, the real life events are probably far more traumatic and horrific then what will be depicted in the movie.

That's what I get for trusting MSN to accurately report anything (that's where I read about it - back when it happened).  I really should have known better.  It will never cease to amazing me what people will do just because they are told to.
