I loves me some TMNT but the real victim here is Alex. He's got deep love for the turtles, and I'm sure this wound cuts deep for him.

Me? I'm half-expecting the Tripods movie to finally get off the ground soon - re-envisioned as a teenage rom-com.  Angry

The Raid: Redemption opens this Friday in LA and NY, and everywhere on 3/30. In the meantime, check out the awesome score by Mike Shinoda and Joseph Trapanese.

Prometheus international trailer: Watch only if you want to know MUCH more about the plot.

Prometheus WonderCon trailer: Ditto.

For the record, I was very impressed with everything said at WonderCon. Ridley Scott really seems to have re-embraced science fiction as his new period, and from the sound of it we'll all benefit greatly from his efforts.

Just got out of John Carter in IMAX.

Good movie, although while I enjoyed it in IMAX 3D, it doesn't scream to be seen as such.

The trailers for Promethus and Avengers were worth seeing, especially the later in 3D.
I gather that John Carter is not doing well in the box office - which is a shame, I very much liked the film. I blame marketing, which seemed to have no idea how to plug this movie.

In which case it seems you have to blame the director.

I agree with a lot of the criticism directed towards the marketing: they've really done fuck all to actually market the film appriopriately, as the ur example rather than the latest derivitive.

John Carter has lost $200 million so far and Disney has officially conceded it as a disaster...

Pity.

Like I said, it was a good, entertaining flick that would have made a decent franchise.

I almost wonder if parts of Disney acted to sabotage it by not advertising it as strongly or well as a way of putting the Pixar guys in their place. Combined with it being somewhere between fantasy and science fiction and that the story shows it's age (in the way that Mercedes-Benz 300SL does) would make it a hard sell to viewers.

Possibly.

According to Deadline.com, it cost $250 million to make and another $100 million was spent on marketing. My initial thought was it might make a good film with the initial trailer but subsequent stuff just made me lose interest.

$100 million on marketing?  Really?  Sounds like the entire marketing department should be fired.

It is Disney ... My guess is the best people in the Marketing department were utilized on marketing The Avengers and not John Carter.

I dunno.. I think the marketing for The Avengers isn't that great either.  (Full Disclosure:  Not a huge comic book fan.  I've only read sparring few in my life.)  However, the trailer and advertising seems to focus too much on a team of seemingly spoiled brat Super Heroes who can't get along.. and not some epic the World is about to implode.. plot line.

I enjoyed John Carter.  But what I watched and what they tried to sell me were two very different things. lol.  If I didn't know what John Carter was before hand, its trailer would have sunk me.

From the articles I've read it sounds like a combination of issues with the Director (first live action movie) and marketing.
