Went and saw SafeHouse this morning. Excellent film! Some solid pacing, nice twists and turns, excellent action sequences, and the last 30 minutes are well worth it. Even Joel Kinnaman from AMC's The Killing appears near the end and was a welcome surprise. I paid a matinee price and certainly got my money's worth on this one. I might have even been willing to pay primetime pricing for it.

For all of us, Spycraft junkies, this one is worth it.

Hmm ... I know Hollywood was eager to grab the rights for it but for me, this is a wait-and-see project.

Probably going to be on my rental list but we'll see.

Am I the only one bothered by the Washington Monument being completed in that trailer?

Abraham Lincoln is fighting vampires...

No, I'm not going to sweat bullets over the Washington Monument. ... Now, if the Lincoln Memorial was in the background...

To absolutely no one's surprise, Michael Bay is back for Transformers 4. Most people probably aren't expecting the next installment to be a reboot, though - and yet is is. Wink

In much more optimistic movie news, Guillermo del Toro will be following up Pacific Rim with an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson. Count me in for that! Smiley

Not so hot on the idea that it needed a reboot but Hollywood has always been looking for another cash cow.

It'll still use the same crappy robot designs, and feature the same crappy director, so there's little hope it will be any good regardless. *

* For what it's worth, I actually like several of Bay's early works - the ones where he had to work with other people and "compromise" his inner 12-year old.

Agreed. Some of his earlier stuff is much better. The Rock comes to mind in fact. Even his first actual film, Bad Boys, was better.

I do not need to see a movie in 3D to enjoy it. If it will not thrill me in 2D, why would I spend the extra money to see it in 3D.

Last night on NetFlix streaming I watched the Japanese film 13 Assassins. It is a brilliant example of an out of control chaos melee. Plus, if you are like Morg who lives Japan and his aikido, you get to see kenjitsu in fine form all over the place. The only real big battle is about 40 minutes in length and does not occur until the last 45 minutes of the film but it is a very nasty affair.

The film is set in 1844 Japan and revolves around the dishonorable younger brother of the Shogun. He is the target for his cruelty and viciousness of which there are examples shown in the front half of the film.

All in all, very much worth the watch and I highly recommend it.
