Not going to spoil anything, but I've just finished watching tonight's episode... it rocks! By far the best episode since the series came back! I especially liked the link into Rogue Trader's Voodoo Child Wink

No spoilers here either, but what did it for me was how well it linked to the original series. They managed to keep to many things the same, or at least very close.

Season 2 of Torchwood is going to be VERY interesting, too. And that's not just because James "Spike" Marsters is in it, either.

The question about Torchwood is whether Jack is coming back for season 2 or continuing on with the Doctor.

Actually, the question is how soon they can kick the grossly overhyped  RTD off the production team and hire some more competent writers. Or at least find writers who can do good work for Who: Chibnell actuall writes quite well for other shows such as Life on Mars, and Rayner managed a decent Torchwood episode, quite unlike the dire cr*p that was Daleks in Manhatten

There's a video on YouTube which proves that Jack will be parting ways with The Doctor and Martha at the end of the next episode - possibly leading straight into the second season of Torchwood.

The YouTube clip is viewable here. It's handycam footage from what appears to be the end of the series finale. There is no sound, but that's not a problem.

About 3m in on that clip, Jack salutes... unfortunately he does it wrong for someone wearing an RAF greatcoat Wink [1] He should salute with the palm of his hand facing towards the recipient, not downwards (which is the Royal Navy/US military "version")

[1] Yes, I know he wasn't really in the RAF, but I thought I'd point it out Cheesy

You're forgetting that Captain Jack Harkness was a US Military officer...

I must have missed that bit. I know he's been an Army Captain (but that was in India so would have been, most likely, the British Army). Regardless, I've just noticed that he's wearing Group Captain epaulets whereas, in his first appearances I'm sure they were Squadron Leader ones.

Actually, a quick check on Wikipedia shows that, when he first appeared, he was posing as an American volunteer with the RAF and that he took the name from the "real" Captain Jack Harkness who was in the US military in 1941.

Still... it's all very confusing. The Torchwood episode where he meets the "real" Jack or the first time is after the Doctor Who episode where he meets the Doctor. But he's calling himself Jack then... Undecided

Ah, the joys of time-travel Cheesy

Some people have conjectured that he might actually be Chris Cwej...

I presume that's a character from the expanded universe (to coin a phrase from Star Wars and Star Trek Wink). If so, I haven't read any of the Doctor Who novels or comics so I don't know Smiley

From the Virgin New Adventures range, yes (which RTD wrote a book for, featuring the character). Was a cop from the future, travelled with the 7th Doctor to escape a corrupt regime, parted ways, became a Time Agent working for the Time Lords prior to the Time War, and at one point I believe either regenerated outright or at least proved somewhat  immortal.

That was his first time through World War II, however. Maybe on his second 'tour' he took up a different persona, or some such, thus the different decorations.

EDIT: I just noted on SciFi.com's site that the third season will be starting in early July... that's in a week or so for those of you playing at home. And I've just watched an advert on tv here at work advertising season three, as well as The Dresden Files, Robin Hood and a whole bunch of other good stuff coming to a local channel (Prime TV). Glee.

We get the Christmas Invasion here on Thursday, then Smith & Jones on Saturday.

I'm impressed with the quality of the trailers Ch 10 are doing for Torchwood - apart from the station's now standard "echoy hanging question of doom!".

The Dresden Files was very well done. I'm hoping it'll get picked up for another run.
