To off set thisthey have some trouble healing up when they have over 1/2 their vitality points remaining.

Hmm. Interesting mechanic. I can't quite put my finger on what it's reflecting. I was thinking slow metabolism at first, but that doesn't really jive with any version of elves I'm familiar with...

At a guess?

Ennui.

I had the same huh moment and started thinking about slow metabolism, unaging leading to slow healing, etc.  Then I stumbled on my own thoughts about unaging and remembered that Vitality is not physical injury.  Then it clicked.  Smiley

On bad days (classic) elves can get a little mope-y. Some are downright emo.

Elf: "The sorrows of the Eldar are never ending."
Human: "So are the ranks of orcs marching up to your hidden sanctuary. Now, to ARMS!!"

Actually, it'd be cool if there was something like the feral quality except that it works more akin to the Toreador clan flaw from oWoD where they become dangerously fascinated or even obsessed...

Yeah, the vitality part is where I stalled.

One of the things in the d20 World of Warcraft book is the ability for several races to take racial levels.  They make the character more archtypically [insert race here].  It's a good idea, but I think it needed a bit more flexibility, and will cost too much if you're a caster.

But will there be feats to minimize some of the starting defects?  You can't be emo forever.  (Right?  That would suck.)

Well, Quick Healer would do a pretty good job of clearing that up, I suspect.

We collectively decided to forego racial levels in favor of racial master classes. Our species are just bad out of the gate Smiley

My favorite Elf species feat - which is literally made for Epoch - smacks down Faded Glory as one of its first benefits. Sometimes it's good to be a more wild elf...

It occurs to me...
Ninja is a class that really likes the terrain feats if I recall...
And Fey (such as elves) gain terrain feats for bonus feats if they want...

First preview of the 4E D&D Elf is here.

Shows some interesting similarities to the Crafty elf (increased Wisdom, move speed, accuracy).

Hmm...

Well, what we've seen of the Crafty Elf better captures the Tolkein or Mythic elves uncanny, almost alien baditude. Being Fey probably helps there.

On the other hand, the more I see of 4e, the more I'm convinced it's going to annoy long time players (note the lack of discussion of elven magic or longsword proficiency) and that it should, although I know it won't, have a nice long Section 15.

I'm also more and more convinced I won't be running it and probably won't wind up playing it. If I wanted to play a Realms MMORPG, I'd play a MMORPG.
