First time posting so "Hello"  Grin

Having read the section on Lurchers / iron pullers I was wondering if this would allow travelling like Batman/Spiderman. Throw yourself off of a roof while maintaining a pull on an iron railing  to your left and swinging off into the night. Find another anchor half way through the swing and latch onto that etc.

1. Would you allow it ?
2. Would you make it a stunt ?
3. If it is a stunt would you have a requirement of long range and or multiple targets ?

I was thinking of these requirements so I didn't have to worry about not having enough metal close enough or the anchor not being strong enough to allow swinging. With these I would only mention the lack of anchors if the story demanded it.

Welcome!  Cool

The only issues I see are that you wouldn't have pewter to help you with the landings, and since you can only push OR pull, course the inability to correct your course could be fatal.

I was thinking of using the long range and multiple targets to allow a gentle lowering of the character to the ground so as to avoid the snapping of legs - hopefully.

Welcome to the boards!

Cool concept, though I would imagine that it would take a lot of practice and impeccable timing.

Edit: And it appears to be supported in the description of Iron on pg. 304. The stunts would just make it better/easier to do.

Welcome to the boards!

I'd certainly allow it, but I'd also do my best to represent the steep learning curve involved - probably with high Difficulty and a Circumstance penalty to start, and weening those off as the narrative starts to support the Hero's growing skill.

I have difficulty seeing that one . . . it's not a rope, and the more direct pull would cause a lot of difficulty. Unlike Batman or Spiderman, you're pulling yourself directly toward the building to start, rather than that curving in towards it, and so the path you'd take would zig and zag much more and be quite a bit more dangerous than what was depicted in those comics. Flying in straight lines and doing Spiderman climbs along metal surfaces I can see being a lot easier and no less effective, and I just don't see a reason to make Allomancer "flight" any more dangerous than necessary for such dubious benefits.

That said, it's not impossible - I just think it'd be difficult, and more difficult than comparable options. It'd be suicide without the Multiple Targets stunt, so I wouldn't add something new for what is basically just the simple use of other abilities. Especially since similar uses are already described in the descriptions of Steelpushing and Ironpulling. Long Range, on the other hand, would be helpful but not necessary. Maybe count it as a favorable condition on rolls?

This is actually done at least once in the novels, but by a Mistborn and not a Lurcher. In multiple instances in the novels and short stories they reference "strong pulls and weak pulls" wherein you gradually strengthen or weaken your pull so you can let yourself down. (How Lurchers float anchored under things whereas Coinshots tend to float anchored over things on the ground.)

A rope is nothing else but some force directed straight toward its anchor. You can simulate that with Iron, but have to be very precise with the strength of your Pull.

Also realize that not everything is made from metal in the Final Empire.... there's lots of wood or stone buildings, so you won't always get to choose exactly where a metal anchoring point is. Hence why being Mistborn really helps. If in a modern city with skyscrapers full of metal and lamps and stoplights made of metal then I could see a Lurcher pulling off a Spiderman "flight" more easily.
