Crafty Games proud to release the Mistborn Adventure Game, a new roleplaying experience based on the best-selling novel series by Brandon Sanderson.

There are three editions of the Mistborn Adventure Game...

  • The Deluxe Hardcover Edition is is available exclusively through Crafty Games. It features all the same contents as the softcover edition plus full-color endsheets displaying the Allomantic and (brand new) Feruchemical tables of metals, a stamped spine, and a beautiful, full-color dust jacket. It's the perfect addition to any Sanderson fan's bookshelf.
  • The Softcover Retail Edition will be available in book and hobby retailers worldwide, but you're also welcome to purchase it here. It features the same contents as the deluxe hardcover edition in a compact, easy-to-carry and use format. It's perfect for that gamer on the go!
  • The Digital Edition is currently available in PDF, with an EPUB version in the works. For one low cost you get the game in both formats, each with the same content as the softcover edition. You can also bundle the Digital Edition with either the Hardcover or Softcover Edition for just $5 more than the print book!

Based on the bestselling novels by Brandon Sanderson and powered by an all new story-driven rules system, the Mistborn Adventure Game lets you explore, command, or liberate the oppressed world of Scadrial, battle the Lord Ruler’s Inquisitors, and master the primal forces of Allomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy. It’s the ultimate resource for fans of the novels and those who want to experience the Final Empire firsthand.

Have just skimmed it so far, but one thing I noticed that was kinda cool, in an extremely nerdy way: The example group consists of
Brandon (Sanderson, the author) as the Narrator. The players are Emily (Brandon's wife), Ben (McSweeny) and Issac (Stewart) two artists who work with Brandon regularly, and Peter (Ahlstrom, Brandon's friend and personal assistant).

I thought that was a nice touch.

I also just downloaded the book and went through it quite fast... The only thing i didn't like was the resolution on the images... I bought the hardcover pre-order, so when it arrives i can probably look at the pictures and details, but i am kinda annoyed that the digital version is so low res... I was looking foward seeing the book's version of Kelsier and the others, so i'm kinda disapointed.
(until i start reading the book for real probably though =p)

One question that I have is that since the download link came through Crafty and wasn't a coupon or link for a free copy from DTRPG:

How will updates to the pdf be handled?

Thanks! There's more on that front. Keep reading. Smiley

This is to keep the PDF on the smallish side. The file's already ~30mb and that size explodes quite quickly if we scale everything up. For example, back when we were doing the Spycraft 2.0 Rulebook, even the low-res version topped 70mb, and higher definition wound up in the hundreds of megs.

Obviously the book will be printed at the very highest resolution available. Smiley

One question that I have is that since the download link came through Crafty and wasn't a coupon or link for a free copy from DTRPG:

If you purchase from us, there's no need to get the PDF from DTRPG. You should receive a link directly from ejunkie.

How will updates to the pdf be handled?

We'll either update directly through ejunkie, as we did for the pre-orders last evening, or through another direct method. We'll keep you posted as we update the product.

Notices will be sent via direct email BTW, so be sure you whitelist ejunkie.com and crafty-games.com email addresses.

Will there be an option to purchase/upgrade to a higher-definition file if we're not worried about file size?

That's an interesting idea, and... maybe. A general showing of interest would be helpful in making the call.

Wait, aren't you in a country that dramatically limits bandwidth? Wink

National Broadband Network is upgrading everything to fibreoptics. Provided it's completed before a conservative government claws its bloody way into office.

But even with standard cable, our bandwidth cost has decreased rather pleasantly the last few years to the point that a link where the multi gigabyte downloads required for MMPORPGs takes hours instead of days is affordably common

I think it's less about download size and more about PDF performance on various devices. A 30MB runs a lot quicker and more reliably than a 300MB one.

On saying many devices can handle larger PDFs and I would be keen on a larger sized file too.

In the past we've received very much the opposite feedback - overwhelmingly so, in fact - which is why I'm skeptical.

Just to clarify, I am not that keen for a better quality PDF, but would grab one if it were available. I am really ot that bothered either way and suspect that the smaller size is the better approach on the whole.

Just guessing here, but that might have something to do with the rapid advancement of mobile devices we've seen over the last year or two?  They've really gone from "just able to load pdfs" to "multitasking with large files and gaming" in a really short time.

I'm not saying I really want or need a bigger file (for me, faster use at the gaming table and in chargen will trump nicer pictures), just a reason why things may have changed.  Perhaps some kind of poll might be in order?

Since we're talking tangentially about such things as alternate files, a selling point of the dead tree version is that it's meant to look a piece with the covers of the novels. That only really works if you're American, or have been fortunate enough to get them via specialty retailer.

A significant chunk of the world gets the UK covers:

(I have the Tor Fantasy version of the trilogy, with the far prettier covers but the paper stock is noticably inferior, and that was simply due to the store not having the complete trilogy in stock in the UK edition, and I've only seen AoL here in the UK edition regardless of store).

So what are the chances of a POD Dust jacket so non-US fans can enjoy the same synergy?
