Zummi was more like a Sage: role revolving around being helpful and having only a smattering of magic.  Look into scrolls: works really well for having bits of paper to read off of but only using magic rarely (you only have so many scrolls).  And then the rest of the role being knowing stuff.

I agree with this assessment with the addition of Wild Magic campaign quality
