Thanks Morgenstern, that is a great explanation. I can see how you can have a theme and structure to the class while also retaining flexibility.

I would like to thank everyone for their quick replies and help. It is most appreciated!  Smiley

Oh, believe me, I wish it had been better framed for entry level players - through examples, mostly. That's why the "starter spell lists" thread exists - because getting the expected behavior in my head into a form other people can use sometimes takes an extra page and often an extra year to work out Sad.

It's also useful to remember that for a 'average' Mage, they get slightly more spells from leveling up on the course from 1 to 20 then they do at first even if they don't put bumps in Wisdom, and all bets are off if they take Spell Library.

Consider also that magic items can also boost your "spells known" capacity

I'm loathe to pimp Spellbound given it's release date is still TBD but... That's where we'll be offering all the guidance you'll ever need on how and when spells can be chosen and gained.

We see the gap. It will be filled.

Sounds cool - looking forward to it as much as ever.  Though I guess I was totally wrong about it being part of the GMs job by design though.  Shame, I actually liked that facet. Smiley

You weren't necessarily wrong. Alex and I tend to view it as part of world building, for example - but we're both GMs first and foremost.
