How many characters from the Trilogy get the treatment like Vin and Sazed here?

All the biggies and a few others. Total? A baker's dozen.

That's just named characters. There's also a Rogues Gallery with tons of unnamed generics for use in your games.

Lets try and guess who:

1 Vin
2 Sazed
3 Elend
4 Kelsier
5 Ham
6 Dox
7 Breeze
8 Spook
9 Clubs
10 TenSoon (and/or OreSeur)
11 Marsh (I hope)
12 Tindwyl
13 Demoux? Or possibly Yeden or Cett... (also possibly the other Kandra if both TenSoon and OreSeur make it in).

Just released one (well, actually two) - your post came in literally as I was putting them up...

Less than a week now until the release of the Mistborn Adventure Game and today we have not one but two previews for you...

  • Conflicts: The full text of the Conflict Rounds section, showing how Physical, Social, and Mental Conflicts unfold in play. and how dice are used and managed at the table. Conflcits are the very heart of the Mistborn Adventure Game, and used for everything from combat to blackmailing someone to breaking their will.
  • New Interior Illustrations: This time we're showcasing Kelsier, a glimpse inside a noble gala, and the nobles line-up, the last of which is a collection of pieces you'll see in the book (some of which you've probably already seen). Given the tight social classes in Scadrial, we thought it would be fun to order character art in collections showing people common to each class side by side. This is one of the results.

Over the coming days and weeks we'll be releasing many previews and freebies for the Mistborn Adventure Game line. Sometimes you'll get new sheets and rules excerpts, other times art and story material, and we also have a few special surprises planned as well. Awesome preview!

Pg. 9 of the preview divided the word "successful" in an odd manner, orphaning the first 's'. Thought you'd like to know!

P.S. I am so excited for November 22!

Nice. I like what I see here.

My only concern is that my group has a strong preference for not splitting action and declaration (yeah, yeah, I know, its way too early to talk rules mods Sad) so I am likely to need to rejig this slightly to make it acting in descending Wits order (or perhaps base dice) with no declaration step. Its going to be tough in terms of determining Defence Dice up front. You also loose the ability to occupy someone with a high Action dice pool by making them spend dice on Defence and the change action mechanic.

That's helpful, actually. I put this one together and mostly trusted InDesign to allocate hyphens. Our graphic designer for the full book is pretty conscious of this sort of thing, so I'm not worried on that front - and besides, we have a bit of time after release to smooth out any issues before we send the book to the printers. Yeah, these were the reasons we went with the two-step process. It's a tough sell to certain groups, we know, but we also think it offers tons of strategic opportunities you wouldn't otherwise enjoy.

Opposed dice roll systems have suffered this issue for years Smiley As said, I really like what I see and will certainly aim to run it as intended. Just trying to think of ways to smooth it over as much as possible.

I could see not have a strict order to the declaration phase (unless there was a conflict) might work. Essentially, just ask everyone what they are doing and only when two PCs/NPCs are waiting on each other use Wits to determine who declares first. That might allow things to focus on the action phase.

Oh certainly. I would only ever use the declaration step for very intense moments when split-second timing matters - like combat. Wink

I was meaning a conflict between two participant in a combat. I can imagine that there will often be times when order of declaration even in a combat is unimportant (this guys runs over here). So, everyone can declare what they are doing informally and only when two PCs/NPCs want to take an action depending on what the other does, do so in ascending Wits order.

Beyond the base Conflicts section, which covers the rules for all three types, we have one additional section for each of the three types of Conflicts - Physical, Social, and Mental - and each of those has a detailed narrative example. I mention this because while the Physical Conflict (combat) example is very time-sensitive and pretty much requires the declaration step, the other two unfold basically as Contests - two sides against each other, and in those examples we mostly leave declaration in the dust.

So yeah, it's totally doable. Smiley

It may sound kind of silly, but I think I will also encourage my players to sit around the table in Wits order to allow me to smooth over the declaration phase a bit.
