I ask, because we are just about to convert a game to Fantasy Craft (this'll be our first go of the system), and I really love the look of the game. However my character concept is the only one we can't satisfactorily (can barely do it at all really  Undecided) make with what's currently out  Cry

First off, welcome to the boards.

Second, I don't think I have yet found a concept that Fantasy Craft just isn't able to represent.  I'd suggest you start a thread about your character and see what we can come up with.

^ This.  These boards be haunted by a crazy bunch o' scribes.  I'd be amazed if they can't find something to fit.

Off note:  Should we break out the Crafty Bunch Rally Monkeys?  lol

Apologies for the delayed response. I wasn't ignoring you - just spotted the post when I couldn't answer, flagged it to answer later, and then promptly got caught up in other stuff. Smiley

I realise, having read through this thread, that you can't give much idea when this book will be released.
I was wondering however, if you could give us some idea when it definitely won't be released? Say, it definitely won't be out for at least 3 months? Or I guess what is the likely amount of time from when you do announce it to it's release (so how long it takes to do final polish/how close to ready it'll have to be before you announce)?

Well, it'll take a little while, at least, to get the text done (probably more than a little while, really, but I honestly don't have an estimate right now, and won't until I dig back in). If you're asking about the PDF, we'll get it out as soon as the remaining design, writing, editing, and layout are complete. So at least not in the next month or so? Hard to say. (This should not, BTW, be taken as an inference that you can expect the book in a month. I'm not ready to speak to that yet. At all.)

Obviously the print version will be along a while after - a couple months after for those who pre-ordered and another month or so after that for stores (again, because that's how long it takes - not because we're holding copies back from retail outlets - gotta be careful to explain everything, for those in the audience who haven't heard it from us or another publisher before). Smiley

Thanks for being so open about all this and I look forward to it whenever it comes out Smiley
Keep up the awesome work and good luck Smiley

Happy to oblige as we're able. Obviously it won't always be possible, and sometimes - like now - we have to be vague. We thank you for understanding, and especially for your kudos and best wishes.

Cool, thanks Smiley

No worries, I figure you're busy.
That's the sorta response I was looking for, and hopefully people do notice that that is NOT a release date, but it will help us work out what to do with our game.
I've done what a couple of people suggested and started a thread, we shall see if anything comes of it Smiley

And you're welcome Smiley

I know you're busy, but is there any chance we can get a preview on Spellbound? Thanks. Smiley

I'm guessing that's a joke (given the thread so far). If not, then all I can say is... when we're closer to release, sure. Wink

Just checking something: are there any listings for new Equipment (such as new Elixers) or are you completely saving that stuff for Gear for The Ages?

It's fine if you are, I just wanted to check.

No equipment will be in Spellbound. That's all being set aside for Gear for the Ages.

So I have a question I feel is legit.

Are we going to be getting different magic SYSTEMS in this book?

As in: If I wanted a form of magic that took longer to cast but operated on a larger/more powerful scale would that work?

Or what if I literally wanted the Ubiquitous magic quality to be taken to the next level? Where each player actually has a certain amount of "spells" they can cast related to a skill or ability?

Just curious here since I'm flexing my creative muscles and I'm curious to see if Spellbound is going to cover what I'm looking for.

Upshot: the contents of Spellbound is an expansion of the basic magic system found in the main book. We won't be reinventing magic from the ground up (say, to an effects based system like Mage or Ars Magica or dumping the Spellcasting skill) but we will be playing with the limits of the core system...

This is what we're looking at with Ritual Magic - trading more time for larger scale effects.

There will be a whole new subsystem which will allow characters to use feats to cast a limited number of spells, something  halfway between Path spellcasting and the basic arcane casting. I'm not sure if that does what you're looking for though.

My advice is flex those muscles! The folks over on License to Improvise are a great resource and who knows? You may find your perfect solution without us Smiley

Absolutely, and who knows? Something you post might trigger something all new and entirely awesome we include in the book. Smiley

I know (and understand why) it's not on the cards, but I would really love to see what you guys would do with an effects based system.

It'd be a cool product to fit with VoS.  Just sayin', but not for any particular reason... *whistles and walks away*

Will there be more shapeshifting stuff in Spellbound?  Maybe something like wildshape?

One can hope...

Given that there's an entire Discipline called "Shapeshifting", I would certainly expect there to be quite a bit - at last announcement there will be 37 Spells per Discipline, plus The Trickster (the governing school's base class) should have some related stuff up his sleeves.

Plenty of shapeshifting. We'll have you well covered on that front.

Note of course that our take on shapeshifting is a bit different from D&D's. More on that as we start to preview those spells, though you've already seen some of it in previous Call to Arms products, as well as the latest convention adventure we haven't released for sale yet.
