Elsie moves over to Frank, loops her hands under his armpits, and then proceeds to (try to) drag him into an adjacent room, hopefully to provide some cover if mister nasty's friends should show up...

Spoiler: show

Uh... half action to move over, half action... handle item?

As Marcus moves to tend the reeling Frank, Alice and Hondo give chase. Alice bounds around the corner, making a series of rocket-powered jumps, careening down the hallway; just before she slams into him, the Intruder actually has time to look surprised. His eyes widen as a woman half his size ploughs into him, driving him back and knocking him to the ground. He rolls backwards up onto his feet and snatches a cylindrical item about the size of a coke can from his belt. He pulls the pin out of it and drops it at his feet, as thick black smoke immediately begins to spew out of the end of it. Hondo rounds the corner in time to see Alice and the Intruder disappear into the smoke cloud, and he snaps off a shot as they vanish from view, having no idea whether (or, indeed, who) he hit.

Marcus hands Frank an SMG from one of the dead infiltrators, as Elsie takes a hold of him with the intent of dragging him into a nearby office.

Spoiler: show

Alice 19 (WP 14/14, VP 36/36)
Frank 15 (WP 12/12, VP 38/49) broken leg, sprawled
Special Intruder 14 (appears uninjured)
Marcus 14 (WP 14/14, VP 48/48)
Hondo 12 (WP 25/25, VP 55/55)
Elsie 9 (WP 12/12, VP 41/41)
- Tex (appears uninjured)

Round 4

Alice moves around the corner so that she can draw line of sight to the Intruder. She then takes the Bull Rush action. Strangely enough, with a result of 26 she succeeds, beating him by 10. He is pushed back 15 ft. and is sprawled

Frank becomes prone. He also loses his rage and is exhausted.

The Intruder uses Rolling Basics to take the Stand Up action for free. He uses the Handle Item action to draw a smoke grenade, and a half action to set it off at his feet. At the start of her next initiative count, Alice will need to make a DC 15 Fort save vs. smoke inhalation. Also, the dense smoke drops visual range by -40 ft., imposes a -4 penalty on related skill checks, and increases relevant defense scores by 4.

Marcus retrieves a gun (an SMG) and gives it to Frank.

Hondo moves over to the corner of the corridor and opens fire on the Intruder. The Intruderís defense is increased by 4, and Hondo suffers a -4 to hit and +2 error range foe firing into melee. With all those penalties, he misses.

Elsie moves over to Frank and attempts to pick him up.

Round 5

Alice 19 (WP 14/14, VP 36/36)
Frank 15 (WP 12/12, VP 38/49) broken leg, exhausted, prone
Special Intruder 14 (appears uninjured)
Marcus 14 (WP 14/14, VP 48/48)
Hondo 12 (WP 25/25, VP 55/55)
Elsie 9 (WP 12/12, VP 41/41)
- Tex (appears uninjured)

Her most recent round of profanity interrupted by coughing on the smoke, Alice dropped Lady Joan and grabbed the intruder to bring him to her companions, through a wall or seven if necessary.

[spoiler]
Fortitude *cough hack wheeze* save. 1d20+3 → [2,3] = (5) (Is it too late to mention that smoke grenades take 3-8 rounds to make enough smoke to choke you, even in the (not small) hallways of the lower Empire State Building, and as a budding mad scientist, she should be used to working in smoke?  (You can' t bring in a pocket knife, but you can buy an axe on the fourth floor.))

Athletics to grab this jerk. 1d20+7 → [13,7] = (20)  An Action Die may be necessary here, but the hold is important.  With that hold, jetpack activation should lead to rocketing us out of this cloud of smoke.

Lady Joan is on a sling, so she isn't far gone.

Hondo barrels down the corridor in pursuit, taking a deep breath before he hits the smoke.

Spoiler: show

About eight different things can happen before it's Hondo's turn, so I want to try and address common outcomes and his action in response:

If Alice and the intruder come out of the smoke on this side, Hondo moves to them and attempts to bayonet the intruder.
If they do not, he double moves into and through the smoke in search of the intruder.
On the off chance that a single move brings him adjacent to the intruder, Hondo makes with the bayonetting.
However, staying in pursuit is more important, so if he must double move to stay with this punk, Hondo does that.

With a parting look at Frank and Elsie, Marcus takes off like a shot around the corner...and grinds to a halt at the edge of a cloud of smoke.

Spoiler: Actions • show

If Marcus can identify the source of the smoke, he'll head on in to find the intruder.  Otherwise, he'll be looking for the source and, thinking they may have set the place aflame, he'll look for some means to fight a fire.

Alice coughs and hacks trying to get her bearings, as the intruder bolts off down the hallway. Marcus rounds the corner with an eye to kicking ass, but skids to a halt at the edge of the smoke cloud. Hondo, on the other hand, barrels past him, sucking in a great lungful of air as he does so.

Spoiler: show

Alice 19 (WP 14/14, VP 36/36)
Frank 15 (WP 12/12, VP 38/49) broken leg, sprawled
Special Intruder 14 (appears uninjured)
Marcus 14 (WP 14/14, VP 48/48)
Hondo 12 (WP 25/25, VP 55/55)
Elsie 9 (WP 12/12, VP 41/41)
- Tex (appears uninjured)

Round 5

Alice fails her save vs. smoke inhalation; she suffers 3 damage and loses her action.

Frank lets himself get dragged into cover.

The Intruder takes a double move action down the hallway, rounding a corner and breaking line-of-sight.

Marcus rounds the corner stopping near the edge of the smoke.

Hondo takes a double move over to and into the smoke.

Elsie drags Frank into cover.

Round 6

Alice 19 (WP 14/14, VP 33/36)
Frank 15 (WP 12/12, VP 38/49) broken leg, exhausted, prone
Special Intruder 14 (appears uninjured)
Marcus 14 (WP 14/14, VP 48/48)
Hondo 12 (WP 25/25, VP 55/55)
Elsie 9 (WP 12/12, VP 41/41)
- Tex (appears uninjured)

Lady Joan in hand, Alice bounds to the corner on a pillar of exhaust and profanity, scanning for this twit for whom Lady Joan has some unkind words.

[spoiler]Bounce to the corner, and if the stealth guy can be seen, a shot will be taken.

Marcus looks for any thing he can use to fight a fire.

Spoiler: Actions • show

This is pretty much what Marcus will be doing over the next several rounds until he finds out that the smoke isn't from a fire.

Alice and Hondo round the corner in time to see the Intruder drawing a pistol with one hand and some sort of handgun with a hook attachment with the other. Alice caps off a shot but misses, and before Hondo can reach him, the Intruder fires several shots at the window at the end of the hallway. Before the window has even fully shattered he leaps through it, trailing smoke and shattered glass behind him. Alice pounds over to the window and sees... nothing but falling glass.

Marcus, meanwhile, continue to fight the fire that isn't there, and by the time he discovers the guttering smoke grenade the fight is all but over. More armed people civilians appear on this floor, spreading out to help the wounded and look for more Intruders. It seems that the three that you encountered weren't the only ones to make it past security.

Spoiler: show

Right, Alice was the only one that could've made a difference there, and she rolled an error. I'm not going to activate it though.

And yes, combat is over. Let's have some IC chat please.

Hondo thunders up to the window next to Alice.

"Fuck," he pants, looking out at the no-bad-guy-anyplace. "You okay, Alice?"

Skidding around the corner, catching up late with the others Marcus sees the shattered window and asks, "Where did he go?"

Spoiler: If Marcus is told he vanished out of the window • show

"Damn, they did the same thing on their way in.  We need to notify the authority here."

If the Authority has radios, he'll contact them via Pip-Boy, otherwise he'll be sprinting down the stairs as fast as he can go.

Alice stomped back from the window, shaking her head. "Hell no.  Bastard got out the window." She settled Lady Joan in her sling and made sure the Red Queen and Jenkins were likewise secured.  "Hondo, I need you to throw me out the window so I can keep looking for that sonofabitch."  She slid the tinted lens down over her face.  "Marcus is getting everyone searching, I need be outside ready to blast this git," she said and presented herself to her large friend for defenestration.

Hondo looks like he's having a hard time processing Alice's cavalier statement of need.

"Out the window," Alice said, pointing to the intruder's exit route. "He went that way!  I'm going after him.  Toss me out or take a 'sorry for toasting you,' but quickly!"  Her voice became more agitated as she prepared to hurl herself out the window if Hondo wouldn't help.
