Latin (more or less) for cloud.

I can dig them up, but they're basically cribbed from 2.0.

This seems appropriate to the topic.

Our group hasn't played too much, but so far we haven't found flight to be a problem. I've mostly used it to hop overa few obstacles myself.

To broaden the topic a little, are abilities more abused when normally they are limited but then opened up? Could this be a case where relaxing limitations breeds a more responsible player?

Truth. Ranged characters in FC scare me.

The kind of damage they can dish out at long range and high speed.

Which I feel is too high.  Arrows lose a lot of their penetrating power as they fly, and only punch straight through armour at point-blank range; something like halving their AP outside of the first range increment wouldn't seem too unfair at all.  But I wouldn't want to do the same for bolts - they keep their punch better, and don't need the nerf.

True, but at the same time, an arrow can break bones and easily kill one person with one shot. With the kind of damage arrows do in FC, it's far from being that dangerous, so the excellent AP is welcome IMHO.

PS: ... I could also picture standard arrows doing 1d8 damage and no AP otherwise.   Smiley

Maybe throw some Keen on them?  Give them a smattering of each?

Keen on an arrow isn't worth much... it's hard to get the damage on any indvidual arrow hit high enough for it to matter.

Well I think a flying hero with bows (or what 'eves) would be easy enough to meet with other range/magic/flying enemies. And FC is so flexible I would think cheap vials of sleep or entangle would be easy to fit at the end of a bow or in a sling when the stakes were high enough : )

In our last game when asked "Why he didn't just fly over the city walls and avoid the throng wishing to pay respects to the dead King?" my Drake replied that "...ballistae bolts are generally not good for your health."

Folk tend to get nervous when flying, fire-breathing critters wing about willy-nilly overhead.

The logic of the world can be so deadly if defied : )

So thats also a good point to everyone who brought it up. Flight in your games existed in the logic of your worlds, not in a realm of mechanics alone. Thank you everyone who brought this up.

To use a video game example (don't worry it will be a tasteful one.) way back, when I used to have a Elder Scrolls: Morrowind character, there were items and spells of flight. This was useful b/c it helped me navigate that hellscape of a island. When I got to playing the squeal Oblivion, I came across a book or newspaper saying the emperor had declared Flight Spells and Items illegal in the country of Cyrodil (or something). This was I think a great use of in game logic to justify the removal of these very useful items.
