Is that syrup on the plate?  As big a fan of French Toast as I am, I'm not big on mixing my sweets and savouries.  Though that sentence does make me wonder what the French call French Toast - surely it isn't just "toast", because it really isn't just toast, is it?

Pan perdue, most likely because it's a way to make use of stale bread.

The best guess is we call it French toast because the English learned it from the Normans.

i made it with some friends. candied bacon is pretty much just bacon baked with brown sugar on it. and well the french toast is obvious.

and yes it is syrup, the overall taste was actually quite good, some of the others that made them used syrup as  a condiment. i drizzled it on mine.

Maple syrup, carbs, and salty bacon is an experience you must taste to believe. Sweets and savories quite fantastic when they go together (did this myself this morning, but with pancakes instead of french toast).
