@ Catodon

First off, if I offended you, please accept my apologies.  Brindlglib's background was different from my expectation.  In general, I assume that if someone is different from my expectation then I haven't done a good job explaining things.  That is all I was doing.  I do NOT want to step on player creativity ... provided it conforms to the overall world envelope.

No offense detected at this end. I suspect you did a great job of explaining and I did a poor job of reading (on tram on way home when tired).

... what do gnomes speak in your world?

In all seriousness, whatever the people who raised them speak/spoke.

Ok, are you cool with a most gnomes speaking Dida? I would like the option of being able to seek out other gnomes and share a language and culture.

Similarly, I want to move his home to the foothils of the Grey Mountains.

Sounds great!  (I pictured the Dida dialect as being there in my head.)

I'm imaginging secretive communities just beyond the olde Dwarven Empire border. Gnome everyday use of low magics being a source of friction with their sturdy nieghbours.

My gnome is based on my vision of this people if there is anything 'out of whack' let me know I am eager to maintain the integrity of your world.

For the curious one of my favourite gnome resources is the old AD&D Complete Book of Gnomes and Halflings. I imagine gnomes much like how they are described in that book.

Don't have that book so there may be times when something strikes me as odd.  If that happens, I look forward to resolving it in a way that satisfies both of us and that adds color to the world at the same time.

Happy gaming.
[/quote]

Not many people do have that book nowadays. Basically if you remember pre-3.5 and pre-pathfinder gnomes you'll be on the right track. Old games like AD&D and Palladium imagined gnomes a bit differently to modern games. Tunnels and Troll's leprechauns are also an inspiration. My gnomes are 'old school' with a bit more British folklore blended in.
I look forward to working out any issues through compromise. Speaking of which are you cool with Brindlglib's hieght? At just over 2 foot tall he's at the low end of the Small game size.

Did you mean 7.5 lbs or could you have meant 7.5 kg?  I ask because he's very lightweight at 7.5 lbs.

Yes 7.5 pounds.
Forget common sense use the cube rule. If a 6' man of the build I want weighs 75kg then a 2' gnome wieghs about: 75kg x (2/6)^3= 2.8kg (6.2 pounds)

Brindlglib is a smidge taller so he's a bit heavier.

EDIT: also makes a change from the 1442 pound giant I'm playing in another pbp.

I was wondering:
1   how far along the line of carts is 'our' cart?
2   How many carts are there?
3   Is our cart within squashing range of the giants stone?
4   How big is the stone? (giant?)
5   Will the cook pots provide Brindlglib with cover?
My default plan is to wait, if ten rounds tick over I can make a tactics roll but I'm not hanging around if I'm likely to get squashed by that rock.

Good questions:

There are six carts in the caravan.  In order they are

  • Rebeca's wagon (though she is riding Boxer) with fine clothing and other requested items, the worker's shares (personally owned items that assistants can sell and earn profit on) and the mail from Riverton
  • Magdar's wagon loaded with beer, ale and spirits.
  • Cloth and pottery/crockery as well as metal pots
  • Spices, preserved meats, fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Chuck's mobile kitchen
  • Baggage (tents, etc.)

Yes, you are in range (just barely) of the giant with the rocks.  The giant appears to be around 14 to 15 feet tall and the rock he's holding is bigger than his head.  Tavish would recognize it as the perfect size for a siege engine.

Yes, the cookware is mostly metal and will provide cover.  If he can find it, the soup pot should provide total concealment (DC 15 if he is being noisy, DC 20 if he is trying to be quiet).

Wolverine contacted me and indicated that he will be joining the party IC.  He has not forgotten about us, just has been busy and missed the initial round of posting.

Are we technically in combat now, and thus if we've failed the threaten opposed check take the stress damage? Also what about initiative?

Yes, we are counting by combat rounds at this point.

Yes, you should take stress damage if you failed your save.  Feel free to roll your own.

*facepalm*  Yes, initiative would be a very good thing.  Please post that as well.

I was thinking more about what is immediately around me to provide cover. I'm on Madgar's wagon and I'm hiding so perhaps cover provided by being behind a ale barrel. At the edge of range, ok I'm saying put at least until someone on my wagon does something rash.
