First off, if I offended you, please accept my apologies. Brindlglib's background was different from my expectation. In general, I assume that if someone is different from my expectation then I haven't done a good job explaining things. That is all I was doing. I do NOT want to step on player creativity ... provided it conforms to the overall world envelope.
No offense detected at this end. I suspect you did a great job of explaining and I did a poor job of reading (on tram on way home when tired).
... what do gnomes speak in your world?
In all seriousness, whatever the people who raised them speak/spoke.
Ok, are you cool with a most gnomes speaking Dida? I would like the option of being able to seek out other gnomes and share a language and culture.
Similarly, I want to move his home to the foothils of the Grey Mountains.
Sounds great! (I pictured the
Dida dialect as being there in my head.)
I'm imaginging secretive communities just beyond the olde Dwarven Empire border. Gnome everyday use of low magics being a source of friction with their sturdy nieghbours.
My gnome is based on my vision of this people if there is anything 'out of whack' let me know I am eager to maintain the integrity of your world.
For the curious one of my favourite gnome resources is the old AD&D Complete Book of Gnomes and Halflings. I imagine gnomes much like how they are described in that book.
Don't have that book so there may be times when something strikes me as odd. If that happens, I look forward to resolving it in a way that satisfies both of us and that adds color to the world at the same time.
Happy gaming.

Not many people do have that book nowadays. Basically if you remember pre-3.5 and pre-pathfinder gnomes you'll be on the right track. Old games like AD&D and Palladium imagined gnomes a bit differently to modern games. Tunnels and Troll's leprechauns are also an inspiration. My gnomes are 'old school' with a bit more British folklore blended in.
I look forward to working out any issues through compromise. Speaking of which are you cool with Brindlglib's hieght? At just over 2 foot tall he's at the low end of the Small game size.
