So, anybody heard about The Agency? It's a spy themed MMORPG that's currently under development. It seems pretty interesting, by the previews. I'm not much of an MMORPG guy, but I just might invest in this one when it comes out.

Yup, we had a thread about it on the old forums. It looks very interesting, and even though it's by SOE, it's being made by a new studio with mostly people by Mythical studios, so I'm cautiously optimistic towards this game. Will wait for the Beta, though.

I'm with Antilles, I'll wait to see the beta.   After watching what SOE did with SWG, my expectations won't be very high.

It's by SOE? Oy. Consider my enthusiasm dampened.

If any of you figure out how to sign up for the beta, post it here. I'd like to beta this one as well.

Oh, I don't think we'll see a beta for a good while yet...  Undecided. Though I did join what I believe is a newsletter of some sort over on the pretty, but mostly empty site of theirs.

Yeah. Talk about low-key interface. Yeesh. I didn't even realize there was anything to click on in the flash site until my second visit.

How did you sign up for the newsletter? I didn't see a link. Or was it that stupid Station thing?

You click on the bullet to bring up the blurb. You can then click on the 'Join U.N.I.T.E. or Paragon' text to get the email link.

I'd have thought that for all the work they'd put into making the site look shiny, they could have included some sort of online form for signing up to the mailing list as well. Oh, wait, it's Sony. Nevermind.

As this game stands at the moment, they're going to have to pull something really amazing out of their creative hats to make me want to play it.

Having no real experience with MMO games in general, or SOE in specific, I remain cautiously optimistic.

Having played in both Everquest and Star Wars Galaxies, I am cautiously pessimistic about anything SOE is putting out right now, especially with regards to MMORPGs.

I wanted to like SWG, I mean I REALLY wanted to like it.  But, alas, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't force myself to enjoy playing it.

Here's an interview with one of the developers.

I like the collection aspect (especially the support network NPCs, aliases, and vehicles), but I'm still really skeptical about the shooter stuff. Here's to hoping they don't drop the ball.

I lost all interest in this game when they released this.

I have zero interest in having to pay real money for fake merchandise.  People seem to think that it'd be better than a paid subscription, but I much prefer subscription.  For one, it is easy to nickel and dime yourself to death without really realizing it.  Hotels have been doing this for years where people non-chalantly grab something that was in the fridge only to find out later they just paid 5 bucks for a candy bar and 20 bucks for that mini-bottle of vodka.

Mainly, I'd rather know full well from the start exactly how much I am going to be paying for the game rather than agonize over every single purchase trying to decide if it is really worth my money.  And if I EVER found something better right after I blew money on something, I'd be pissed.

At leasts it sounds like I could try it for a month to see if I like it without paying for a box with a $50 price sticker on it.
