Is the pre-order no longer available? Or am I just blind? I asked the cashier at the show and he said check the website.  Huh?

You asked who now? The Studio 2 cashier? We were taking those pre-orders at the show ourselves (at our booth).

\It was part of a change we had to make in Spellbound to ensure compatibility of Circle of Reaping/Conjuration/etc. (which are slightly variant) and Circle of Power. CoP does not actually need to be a legacy ability since its effect is always the same. For balance in the system, we never grant, say, CoP II (+2 Levels of spells you can cast) at once, which is the only place having it be legacy would be useful. We discovered during playtest this actually REALLY helped the playtesters grok how the ability was supposed to work - a lot of groups found earlier versions which included the numbered versions more confusing ("Why does the Arcane Savant let you cast just Level 1 and 2 spells?"). Lots of unexpected upsides with this change.

Is the core book .pdf going to be updated with this tweak?

Probably not. We'll errata it though. (We don't tend to redo that work unless we have substantial changes or a new printing)

Not to correct Alex, but... maybe. New advancements in PDF tech (and new understanding of old tech) is allowing us to do more with PDFs now than ever before, and we expect one of the areas where we'll be able to offer a bit more service is updating electronic releases. That said, it's unlikely to happen every time we decide on a change, or even most of those times. Instead, we'll stockpile changes and make them all at once every so often, so we can mostly focus on new projects.

You know what would be cool?  A teaser with the "Depending on your campaign" stuff for the classes...

(Can't blame me for trying, right?  Would certainly help with the BPRD game I'm planning... Wink)

Actually, that is rather cool. I'll tuck that one away for... later. Smiley

Heck, just a general "Depending on Your Campaign" that just lets us know what sorts of combinations the book can pull off without necessarily mentioning anything specific.

Honestly, that would be tricky. As you guys keep proving to us, what we see in these books is rarely even close to the sum total of their potential. Smiley

Anyone know if Spellbound will make creating a character class like that of the
Sha' ir from Al-Qadim easier then it currently would be?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sha%27_ir_%28Dungeons_%26_Dragons%29

I know it could be done now with a priest w/ Genie PL and a little bit of hand waving now.  I am just wandering if the familiars section in Spellbound might work even better.

I can't see familiars working specifically better then a PL does at the moment, but the big effect of the genie there is to allow the caster to change their spell's known list on the fly.  Strikes me as an expert class - core ability gives a genie PL with the note that if it dies you can't cast spells until it's back, then at first level you'd have a modular spell list ability (I'd make it adventure by adventure to reduce book keeping, but YMMV).

Seems like an easy class to write (just based on that article), but pretty specialised (campaign wise).  Balance +  the headache of keeping a list of spells you have seen for snatching purposes will be the only issues of homebrewing something if it's not catered for in Spellbound.

No idea, but you know a homebrew class has already been built, right?  (Also a speciality alternative, previously made by the same person).

Oooo, thanks for this: I've thought about a class that needs a companion to cast spells. Grin

I have no idea how I missed that?  Even when I used the search button!
Anyways thank you much that is what I was looking for.
Although it will be interesting to see what spellbound will bring to the table.
