For those of us who can't get to the article in question...

Have you de-nerfed the Diviner?  I've always hated the fact that divination has been treated as only half a school.  Even in the normal SRD, diviners are freaking cool (I've got two words for you - true strike), and in a Spycraft campaign they are life and death in one.  Plus, if you read the core rule's description of the bounds of divination, the things you could do with that are power incarnate.

"I give you the truth.  No, no, wait, let me rephrase... I force you to see the truth."

(That, and I'm kind of giddy to be able to revive my "Alethiomancer" concept.  It's a simple thing, being able to unfailingly reveal the truth...)

Sages will not suffer from a lack of mighty  Cool.

Divination in and of itself is a powerhouse spell category in any setting that goes beyond kill things and take their stuff. You have magical access to information. That borders on ultimate power right there.

Team that up with artifice (mastery of constructs) and words of power (a variety of free action spells) and you have a serious engine of gameshaking goodstuff. Sages have more effects that key to alignment than most caster classes (with preservers comming in second and channers likey to place third) so good sages are going to be heroic icons, bringing wisdom and butt-kicking insight to all who hold to the light, while evil sages are going to be terrifying figures of stolen secrets and soul-crushing lore many wish had stayed long forgotten.

I can hardly wait to get back Smiley.

Personally, I've always loved the concept of the offensive divination.  You don't receive the wisdom... your enemy does.  In other words, whatever level it is (probably high), I want a total perspective vortex spell.  Dang it.

Yeah, but any time a NPC uses it on a PC the PC gets an inflated ego and you need to get a new piece of fairy cake.

I have to admit I find the notion of offensive divination rather amusing. Information overload Cheesy.

Phantasmal Killer is pretty much the poster child for offensive divination.

Me enemy sent one after me, I caught it using a cardboard box, a ruler, and a bit of twine.

That'll teach it for trying to get at me from under me bed!

Working with the details has created some interesting changes in spell categorization since that article. Transformation just wasn't working out (too difficult to distinguish from Metamorphosis). The fix had consequences across 4 classes(!). Here's what I'm currently looking at:

Channeler - Channeling (Energy, Force, and Weather)
Conjuror - Conjuration (Compass, Creation, and Transmutation)
Enchanter - Enchantment (Charms, Foresight, and Nature)
Preserver - Warding (Glory, Refuge, and Seals)
Reaper - Necromancy (Curses, Terror, and Unlife)
Seer - Mystery (Artifice, Divination, and Words of Power)
Summoner - Calling (Boon, Healing, and Summons)
Trickster - Trickery (Illusion, Secrets, and Shapeshifting)

How's Foresight easier to distinguish from Divination?  And what happened to Mutation?  That sounded like all kinds of fun evil.  Smiley

I would figure Foresight would have more in the way of "the attack did not occur" or re-roll kinds of things, possibly with some action die granting at the higher spell levels, whereas Divination would be more about Intel gathering.
