No existing campaign. What's the fastest way to immerse players in FC? I was going to do a quick dungeon delve with characters that they built, as these are fairly experienced roleplayers. I could run them through some of the adventures in ToHA but I don't own it yet.

You can use the conversion rules in the Foes chapter to convert the monsters from any 3rd edition-compatible d20 product. There's an ocean of those available on DriveThruRPG for 10 dollars or less (usually much less). Or you might have a big pile of old Dungeon magazine issues, which work great, or a bunch of old modules of your own on a shelf.

FC doesn't need an existing campaign world to function. It's a toolkit, not a sandbox.

I'm not sure I communicated my intent effectively. I have a group of players interested in Fantasycraft, but I'm not going to start a major campaign yet as I myself don't have enough time to prepare. I'm looking for advice on how to introduce them to the ruleset in the most expedient way possible.

Run some modules? Time of High Adventure? Part of the problem is that I've never actually run anything other than a campaign -- except for a few modules that I failed miserably to GM. So, the dilemma? I don't feel comfortable running modules. I'm willing to try again, hoping that the wonderfulness that is FC will help cover up any GMing missteps. :p

There's still a "short" campaign, which is what I wasp planning. Sunchaser seems perfect.

I'd recommend using Times of High Adventure using the Iconics pre-built characters..   Character generation for people new to FC, even experienced game players, can be involved.

Perhaps you could choose A module, as in just one, and convert the stats, and see where that goes. You don't need to do a whole campaign like a season of television. Keep things contained and episodic: it'll allow you to do just one adventure, try the mechanics, and not be on the hook for more until you find another module to run.

this probably by far the easiest way to do it.

I think this http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=78001&filters=500_0_0_0  is also a good choice as I think it shows some depth to the system.

Familiarise them with action dice and their influence on narrative control (and spell points, if they're casters). Pretty much everything else flows from there.

First, I would use pregenerated PCs.

Second, if you are uncomfortable with running a module maybe look for one that is more "sandbox".  What I mean is that the flow of the adventure is more flexible in which your players determine the direction of the story.

One of the best classic example is "Keep on the Borderlands".

Another more recent example is the Kingmaker series by Paizo.

Both are basically dungeon crawling but in a small village setting (Keep on the Borderlands) or the great outdoors (Kingmaker- basically explore the unkown regions with the typical random encounters).

Third, write up a 1-2 page primer.

First, I would use pregenerated PCs.

But limit them to level 1 or 2. Too many options up front and you risk overwhelming the players before they've even begun. Also, an extra sheet summarising the tricks and actions available to each character would be helpful, too. Certainly much easier than passing the book around the table during combats.

If possible, try putting them up against a creature you normally wouldn't face at lower levels in DnD. This will give you a chance to show how FC characters don't have to spend a few levels killing goblins and wolves before they can move on to more dangerous monsters.

Any word on Pregen Iconics? I want to get a beginner session going this weekend and would rather use the pregens than spend the day making characters instead of actually playing. I read a couple old threads that they were on the "back-burner" back in November but I cant seem to find any. Not even the old (pre second printing ones). Are any available? oh and wyrmstone.org is dead.

Really?  The rest of the guys will be so disappointed.  Smiley

I've got a stack of Wyrmstone Iconic characters you're welcome to look over. PM me here and we can figure out emailing and whatnot.

Any word on the official Iconics/Pregens? The Wyrmstone ones provided by Gentry are lvl 3 and I was hoping to possibly find some lvl 1 pregens. I may overwhelm my new players (and at this point half way through stating out a lvl 1 adventure) with lvl 3 characters. Plus Gentry's are rather fleshed out background wise (which is normally a good thing) and I was looking for something generic/bland.

I cannot remember who, but someone on these forums had the idea of the 'action of the week'.

Each week/session, (s)he had the adversaries perform one often unused action (such as grapple, feint, trip) every now and then throughout the game. Thus, hopefully, introdcuing these mechanics to the players.

I've done it myself and it worked well.

Cheers! Cheesy
