I remember hearing that Spycraft 3.0 had been announced. Is it still in development or has it been scratched?

It's still in development. Due either late this year or the next.

It was originally due out this spring but as we got into it we quickly realized that the original schedule would have done the game a grave disservice. Rather than rush out an inferior game, we decided to hold off until it was ready. We're deep in development now but don't yet have a firm window for release. Watch the site for details as they develop.

We appreciate that, Lord K. We'll do everything in our power to do you (and everyone else, hopefully) proud. Smiley

I am glad to see this, as Spycraft has been one of my favorite engines for allot of stuff... After a short time trying to make GURPS work for my more realistic settings... I am back! Looking forward to the new game!

Why start a 3rd edition? The original was awesome. But when the 2nd edition came out I was happy. It has everything I need to play the game. Can anyone help me with this new concept and what it encompasses?

We actually haven't talked much about it, and won't be revealing any concrete details until Gen Con 2012 (and even then, it'll still be relatively early in the process0. You can count on it being something of a return to form, though - closer in tone and complexity to Classic than 2.0, and refocusing on espionage first.

More as we have news to report. Smiley

At least part of the reason is that classic is owned by Alderac, and 2.0 is owned by Mongoose.  Crafty having to license their own product in order to keep making it is less than ideal.  Also it lets them build on what they learned from making, running, playing, and listening to us yap about 2.0 and Fantasy Craft.

EDIT: Welcome to the forums, by the way.

I get where you're comming from - when Spycraft 2.0 came out my first reaction was "Why?  The Spycraft Espionage Handbook is fantastic and (with the rest of the Black/Silver lines) has everything I want."  Then I played 2.0, saw how vastly improved it was and totally loved it from the first session we played.

I'm guessing from your post you haven't checked out Fantasy Craft?  You can tell by reading it that the guys have again improved their core system by leaps and bounds - meaning that Spycraft 3 will be amazing.  No question.
