So what are some of the proteus gadgets that you guys use. Some of the only examples I thought of are from "Aeon Flux", Trevor Goodchilde's cigarette case that turns to a handgun and also all the Vehicles form M.A.S.K.
What are some other ideas?

A standard one my players use is a Proteus SUV/Helicopter.

I think the Proteus modification is pretty clearly intended for use in creating a "supervehicle" of some sort, and it's pretty cool that way.

I suppose, though, that you could use Proteus as a type of disguise for a thing.  Perhaps disguising a computer as a simple attache case, allowing you to sneak your hackmaster-machine past guards.  Or the cigarette-case/gun you mentioned earlier.

I dunno, wouldn't the miniaturization mechanism be more appropriate for those kinds of items? Miniaturizing a laptop into an attache case, or a gun into the cigarette case, etc.

I know that the Proteus mechanism apply to all housings equally, but I guess it's just a hold-over from 1.0 that Proteus = supervehicles.

The Proteus Modification is good for many ideas.  The PDA/handgun, laptop/SMG, and video camera/sniper rifle to name just a few.  The biggest benefit of this feat is that when it is one thing, it is that thing.  Then you change it and it becomes the other object.  Any time you miniaturize something, you run the risk of someone noticing it, and once you use your briefcase like an SMG it's all over.  With PM, though, you can carry a pistol or SMG onto a plane, or into another country without anyone being the wiser.  It will look and act like what it is until you need to change it to its alternate form.  Now the sniper can go into a building with his video camera, change it to a sniper rifle, take his shot, change it back, and it becomes much more difficult to get him for it.  All in all, I much prefer this gadget to miniaturization in many cases.
