Hi gang

I haven't seen a lot of submissions recently and was wondering if that was due to lack of interest in sharing. One of the things everyone here can do to make Fantasy Craft more popular is post more conversions and content added to the database. Why is this better than posting to the forum? There are quite a few reasons...

#1 Searchability - When Google indexes a site, it places more importance to a page when it sees the page's title is equal to the term being searched for. In addition, if the term being searched for appears multiple times on multiple pages, it shows up more times and will more likely show up for various searches.

#2 Reader Friendliness - The forum is a great medium for discussing ideas, and I agree a lot of the ideas on here are worthy of great discussion, but even if an idea isn't 100% complete, posting it on the Fantasy Craft Database generates buzz and gives a readable, less cluttered space for the content.

#3 Higher Probability of a Search Result from Searches for the Exact Term - Google also indexes sites based on the amount of content the site contains. The more content the site contains, the more likely it is to appear as a search result based on a general search. However, because the Fantasy Craft Database doesn't include other content that might cause a search result not to appear, such as discussion, the content bubbles higher to the top of search results for that particular content.

As an example of the above considerations, try doing a search for "fantasy craft dinosaurs" in Google. The Fantasy Craft Database has a blessing from the Crafty Games guys specifically because it broadens the "License to Improvise" movement rather than restrict it to the forum.

Hope that helps anyone out there who was considering posting to the database but may have opted to only post to the forum.

I've actually got quite a few Specialties I've been meaning to send, but my schoolwork has piled up so high that my nerdery has taken a backseat. I promise to send you a great big bundle of stuff born out of my fiddling with stuff as soon as I can come up for air.

I definitely have to second having other things to do: I've got other gaming projects occupying my attention, and real life is going to stop being kind to me soon.  Plus I'm currently not on a kick that works for using a system designed to do fantasy.

For my part, I'm working on too many stuffs at the same time:
- The Rokugan thing that is not yet finished ...
- The Iron Kingdoms document I'm translating sloooowly.
- The Psionics houserule that approaches completion.
- ... and something for the Witcher that is almost over, though in French for now.

As soon as I finish at least one of these and receive feedback, I'll post as much content as I can on the database. In the meantime, first things first. Wink

Nothing worse than a great project that doesn't take off like you think it should. I empathise.

I have a few more things to submit but have been slow recently due to A) spent a while in a place with no internet, B) personal computer in to be repaired, C) usual life stuff.
A and B will resolve in next fortnight andf then you can expect a steady trickle from me.

More generally I think we have a chicken and egg problem. There are less people playing FC than her direct competitors, contributions to the FCDB will increase the games profile and gather more players, but there are fewer players to contribute content to the FCDB.

This is a real shame. From my point of view FC kicks the arses of its most obviuos competitors and more generally is a first rate game. I tell everyone who will listern. But gamers are sticks in the mud or a busy and so I never find players for my FC games.
I wonder if this phenomenon is widespread.

With no FC game running the lions share of my time to work on games has to go on the game I am running (with three other referees). THe result less FCDB entries from me.
Its a terrible viscious circle.
