I have a giant collection of 2nd Edition world of darkness books. I love the creatures evolved(not the setting), and have tried to run my own WoD game 3 or 4 times. Each time the extreme lack of clear rules derails everything and the game falls apart. I was wondering which would be easier, adding things like movement speed and actions to the d10 story teller system, OR creating the same characters in Fantasycraft/Spycraft. Again I like werewolves(5 forms) Vampires, Hunters, Wraiths, Changlings etc., not the setting put forth in the books. Ideas?

Well, you might want to try and hunt down a copy of Monte Cook's World of Darkness, which is a d20 take on the stuff in the oWoD books, but has its own setting.

I'm sure MC can handle it, but it might well be easier to start with a d20 version of the stuff and making it Crafty, rather then whole clothing it.

I have some material from round 2, but not a lot. You'd have to probably explain what you want to emulate.

I had completely discounted Monte Cook's book because of his horrid treatment of werewolves. I have a great deal of respect for the man, and the majority of his work is solid, however looking at the book again I am not sure his treatment of the rest of oWoD. Something major was lost in translation. One of the most important things I see is that when you try to balance the monsters against each other they lose what makes each special.

If you want to see one way to convert things, look at the gurps books. Gurps has official Mage and Vampire conversions for oWoD 1st edition, which is an easy conversion to 2nd/Revised. I think they have Werewolf, but I'm not sure if that's a fan conversion or an official. I know they have a fan conversion of Wraith as well.

Monte Cook's WoD is interesting, but it bugged me. Though its been so long since I've looked at it, I don't remember what bugged me about it. I'll have to relook at it.

But, that is also an idea, since it is d20, it might be possible to convert MC's WoD to MC easily enough if its balanced. All things depending.

Edit: I remember why I tossed the Monte Cook book away now that I've glanced at it. It's not World of Darkness. He took all the names, all the powers, and put it in an entirely different world rather than the one that White Wolf actually printed. It was like taking Kirk, as Kirk, and tossing him in Babylon 5.

Try this. BTW, the author's willing to address rules criticism, unlike the typical WoD crowd.

Typically by insulting you, belittling you, or both. Heck, he did it three times in the opening paragraphs.

He's also the guy who dismissed FC as worthless and the product of idiots who know nothing about game design, all without having bothered to read it.

There have been some previous attempts to stat Vampires and Werewolves as species which you might want to check out.  You could tweak them to be closer to the WoD version and then add clans as species feats.  Something along these lines:

Clan Brujah (species feat).
Blah
Requirements: Vampire, Level 1 only, no other Clan feat
Benefits: Blah

Brujah [Prince/Elder/Whatever] (species feat).
Blah
Requirements: Clan Brujah, Noble Renown >=X*
Benefits: Blah

* Not a normal feat requirement, but fits the whole social-advancement bit of WoD fairly well imho.

You know whats kinda funny? Agent 333 is in my play group and I remember that conversation back when those monster races started appearing for spycraft. We never did settle on anything.  Grin  Anyway I think I'm reining in oWoD pretty well. I added movement speeds, and half actions. I did away with splitting dice pools (always a major headache) and am setting hard parameters on gaining and losing all them "special" resources like Gnosis and Glamour. Thanks everyone for your posts and if you think of any other structure oWoD desperately needs please, please reply, I may have missed it.  Smiley

Does his opinion of FC make aWoD a bad game? And I'm not seeing the alleged insults at aWoD's start. Also, how much of it did you read before seemingly advising people not to play (or possibly, not even read) it?

Eh, to be more explicit, my first post meant more "try reading this", than "try using this", since the TSAG likely prefers a MC port; but reading it does pay off for that as well.
