Hi,

Just to clarify, when converting an OGL NPC to FC, is the Conversion Threat level = the type of Hit Die (eg d10)  or the number of Hit Die ?

Thanks.

When you're doing the initial conversion, the Threat Level is equal to the Challenge Rating of the monster. The Number of Hit Die compared to that help modify the Health rating or Toughness number.

Thanks Coyote,

but the problem i have is that i'm converting from Conan D20 and it didn't have CR only Hit Dice.

In the FC book, it says if no CR you can use Hit Dice, but is that Number of HD or Type ?

I'd say most likely number of Hit Dice since that was usually the baseline that they would base the CR off of for d20 stats.

I'd agree. I'd go with the total number of Hit Die, since the type (d4, d6) grant your starting health ranking. Then use a judgement call on whether or not the Health should be bumped up or tough added. The actual number of hit dice has no real value to the conversion other than determining if the Health rating should be raised or lowered or tough added.

There's a problem with your suggestion, gang. In a normal game, you'd use number of hit dice. The conversion presumes the core OGL, which uses 2-tier (HD and CR) ratings. However, Conan does not have that option.

In Conan's case, I would use HD type and Size per table 6.11. That means you don't get the "bump" from having more HD than CR, but you can tweak easily enough if you think something is tough Smiley

Excellent, thanks everyone.

Conan D20 is a bit of a weird bird but has some cracking monsters and rogues so I want to get the conversion right.

Soon as I've had a read through Adventure Companion, I'm planning on opening a Conan thread and posting a few more Hyborian beasties.

So thanks again.  Smiley
