The latest Doctor Who trailer - some old clips, some new ones, and eight (apparently) from Neil Gaiman's episode. Also, Lily Cole.

The Wonder Woman costume has officially changed (complete with video of filming).

The producers listened and changed all the major complaints: darker pants, matte fabric (for the pants), red boots, flat boots.

And yet, the sites I've seen seem to suggest that the nerd rage continues.  I'll never understand why our community is so obsessed with "pre-disappointment" in things that are made for us.  Roll Eyes

I think most geeks have a certain level of OCD when it comes to the things they love and by god if you change it, look out.

The producers listened and changed all the major complaints: darker pants, matte fabric (for the pants), red boots, flat boots.

No straps for the top which is still PVC instead of leather, stretch fabric instead of leather pants, cowboy boots, horrible plastic accessories. I'd say they've addressed half of the major complaints.

A couple of new shows have hit the airwaves...

Camelot - Yet another retelling of the Arthurian legend. A lot grittier than BBC's Merlin and it takes full advantage of appearing on Starz. They've managed to pull in a pretty impressive cast, too: Joseph Fiennes as Merlin, Eva Green as Morgan, Claire Forlani as Arthur's mother, and James Purefoy. Might get a little overshadowed once Game of Thrones comes out, but it might be able to stand on its own.

Chaos - A comedy series about a crack CIA team who put results above risks. Sounds odd, but it's lots of fun. The cast is nicely varied, especially with Kurtwood Smith playing a Director trying to get them shut down. Not exactly laugh-a-minute, but that's okay.

Re: Camelot.

I'm really pissed off that there is this attitude to take these classic stories and make them 'adult" and "edgy," which really just means, "tits."

Just in the promotional material alone: "Forget everything you ever knew."  "Fleshy."  "Camelot for adults." "Sexy."

Explicit sex does not create a new re-telling of a story.

(And I've never even read A Game of Thrones but I could kick the producers in the teeth for how much they're pushing that what makes it worth watching is all the explicit sex.)

Oh, don't get me wrong, it's not all 'tits'. There's a lot of political intrigue, particularly from Merlin. It will be interesting to see how things are going forward, whether there will be less tits and more intrigue or somehow a mix of both.

Hot people having make-believe, cable-appropriate sex is a pretty good marketing gimmick for a cable series. I can't deny that its crass and tacky, but if you're competing with guys with bigger budgets and more viewers, I can see why they'd go for the B-Movie approach to promotion.

It sort of worked for Spartacus, after all, and I was pleasantly surprised that it got pretty good after its terrible, pandering pilot episode. And, uh, the female actresses DID look real nice naked...

As far as Game of Thrones, if you can lure in some fantasy-phobic viewers with promises of steamy "adult" eroticism and then surprise them with sophisticated storytelling, I think its also worthwhile.
