The Homeland Security one sounds interesting. Makes me wonder how it will compare to the Canadian show The Border (currently on NetFlix InstantPlay).

As for the constant product placement, there is a fear in Hollywood that people are starting to watch when it is only convenient for them and not when shows are broadcast which is calling into question Nielsen ratings now. It is a mostly hidden thing but there is a deep concern (especially with many people working longer hours, on weekends or having a 24/7 job) that the prevalence of services like Hulu will take over the market.

As Pat said, the subscription services idea is slowly becoming a reality and has many people in TV land concerned since they can no longer "control" or predictably get the audience to watch their shows.

Reality shows are easy to do overall since pilots cost about 50K to do compared with most other shows running a few hundred thousand to Terra Nova's 10+ million in price. Plus, if the format of that reality show takes off, they can lease the concept to other networks in foreign countries and continue to make money on it because it translates easily.

The days of a more than just a few networks having nothing but reality programming are becoming more and more likely. Plus, there is the concept idea programs where multiple networks try to cash in on an idea (which has been happening since the 60s - how many espionage themed TV shows were there after Mission: Impossible?).

its not so much the product placement its moments in the show that dont seem to belong and were just put there for the product. the season 2 finale of the glades is an example where a character gets into a car the scene shifts to just the starter button on the dashboard when a finger presses it and the character makes a quip about the starter. the scene was not needed and served no purpose what so ever.

I can understand the objections.  I don't mind the close up of the car logo as the start of a pan sequence; however, I take issue with stopping the flow of the show - Truman Show style - to show me a product.

I'll put Arrow (and keep Nikita and Supernatural) on the DVR. Not a whole lot else there of any interest at all.

Also, wow, but Deadline.com has some ... special folks in the comment threads. Yahoo News-level, even.

I might tune into Elementary to see some of the character dynamic between Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu just because their chemistry might make it worthwhile.

As for Arrow, I fully expect some backlash about it from Smallville fans since Hartley has moved on.

Beauty & the Beast? Really? ... They should have left the original alone (and the same will probably be said about Elementary but I have to check it out.)

Cult --- Robert Knepper has an evil mysterious leader has shades of Heroes in it but this is the type of role he excels at and seems to be the only bright spot about the show -- unless they make allusions to Scientology with it and that will be the draw.

Vegas --  looks good though and certainly has a winning cast and concept.

Yeah, I don't read those. I like my sanity and emotional stability where they are, thanks! Smiley

I'll tune in to Cult's premiere episode to see if they exploit Jessica Lucas'... assets, but otherwise it seems rather blah to me.

No argument on the cast but the trailer just left me cold.

For all the Lovecraft fans... Haiyore! Nyaruko-san (aka Nyarko-san: Another Crawling Chaos). Assuming you have a tolerance for weirdness, excessive amounts of Lovecraft, video game, table top gaming (primarily Call of Cthulhu), and anime references. Being able to get a humorous kick out of inverting the 'good' and 'bad' guys in the Mythos will help too. The show's unspeakably funny and blasphemously geeky.

It's been running for a few weeks, but it's being streamed on Crunchyroll outside of Asia. They have the current full length show and the earlier short TV and ONA flash shows.

As a warning, a cast shot:

Entities (Cthugha, Hastur, a Starspawn of Cthulhu, and Nyarlathotep) on the left, humans on the right. When not at school, Hastur is always dressed in a yellow hoodie. Not pictured is Shanta-kun, Nyaruko's unspeakably cute shanta bird pet.

Damn, I enjoyed the second season a lot.

My little spreadsheet of shows I actually watch is rapidly dwindling (end of season standard), but unlike normal there isn't much that's replaced it.  Those links you posted earlier today left me with a profound feeling of "Meh".

Random question:  Does anyone on the forum live in Portland?  If so, is it as amazing as it seems?  Mate of mine just give me the first two seasons of Portlandia...
