I just saw Captain American, too. It was pretty good. I think both Iron Man films were better.

It may be because Tony Stark is a more interesting and flawed character.
And casting Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark was spot on, bringing much of his personal history to the character.

I think those reasons are true, and in addition I think Jon Favreau > Joe Johnston

Well, part of it may be that the interesting aspect of Cap is the man out of time function. That he believes so utterly in America, and then he's presented with a world were those who act the most like his ideal of America look and sound the least like it and vice versa.

I disagree about Iron Man 2.  While Robert Downey Jr was amazing, I think the film suffered from "Avengers Syndrome".  Instead of being it's own good film, it tried to do too much avengers stuff, and felt too diluted.  The Deus Ex Fury in act 2 was terrible, and took what could be some real character development and glossed over it with a macguffin - which is flat out bad writing.  I don't blame Favreau, who admitted that many of the bad parts of the film were forced on him, and are the reasons he won't be doing IM3 (much to it's detriment I believe).

I just hope that for the Avengers it doesn't also have too much stuff in it to be a good film.  That and that the inter-party banter is as cool as the stuff in The Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes.

Darkest Hour trailer.

Ya know, with all the alien invasion movies coming out, not to mention an alien invasion special on Discovery Channel (or was it Curiosity?), you'd almost think the government was prepping us for something...

Heretic!

Shane Black.

'nuff said.

Personally, I think Favreau is a hack director at best. To me, he hasn't really brought anything new to the table. (that's after watching "Cowboys vs. Aliens"... it's not worth the price of the evening ticket, maybe when it gets to a bargain theater it could be worth watching.)

I was unaware he was directing IM3, but that does bode well - as long as Marvel don't meddle too much again.  Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was fantastic, and he's a solid writer as well.

Having seen the rest of the Avengers franchise to date, I do have to wonder why Iron Man 2 copped it so hard compared to the rest?  Apparently the powers that be wanted to go for a "more is more" approach for it, unlike the way the rest of the films were treated.

You're forgiven.

Good question. I don't know. I can only guess is that at the time the movie was probably written or in production, Stark was in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the comics. Hence, more Fury and Co. However, I'm not going to complain too much... it did give Scarlett Johansson more screen time. She's very, very yummy.

I don't think IM 2 suffered "Avenger-itis" so much as having an entire subplot fail to work. The "Tony's dying of paladium poisoning" thing, while it drove his reckless behavior, didn't seem to affect him in any other way. The fact that it gets resolved by Fury walking in with a box of goodies and a science experiment that makes anyone with any knowledge of physics or chemistry cry is a huge detriment to the film. That, and the final fight didn't last long enough.

(The scene with Tony and Pepper on the roof near the end bugs me too, but for completely different reasons...)

That looks neat. I especially like the grounded scale that trailer conveys. Thanks for the link!

I'm still a wee bit torqued that they didn't include the best scene from the trailer (Pepper kissing the helmet and throwing it out the back of the cargo plane). In fact, that may have been the best scene from the movie, which makes the cut that much more annoying.
