So you're saying a black actor can't play a white character?

No disagreement but Marvel canon is still being held up and Ultimates is maintaining it as much as possible.

The whole point of the Ultimate imprint was to cut away the decades of dead weight and continuity wanking, and present the core concepts of the characters in an 'as new' fashion.

Fury's core concept is "Bad ass mother fucker who runs SHIELD", not "relic of a past age we've kept alive to maintain copyright who also happens to run SHIELD" because that's pretty much a pointless redux of Cap's origin. It's also the reason why they made Fury black as part of the character's reboot.

As I pointed out, if there's a black Fury who is going to be involved in any way with the Howling Commandos, the current The Avengers cartoon has shown us how Marvel most likely intend intend to handle it. Most likely, given racial attitues of the era, we'll discover that modern day Fury has a white ancestor

Um, Ultimate Nick Fury is a WWII vet too, folding elements of Isiah Bradly's back story in since everything in the Ultimate continuity goes back to the super soldier serum.

Also, Ultimate Nick Fury wasn't a Samuel L Jackson look-a-like until Ultimates came out in 2002.

Considering that Gabriel Jones (the African American Howling Commando) is apparently in the movie, there's no reason Sgt. Fury shouldn't be black.

Captain America was the first graduate of the Weapon program. The tenth iteration of the Weapon program is what gave Wolverine his adamantium. The Infinity Formula was the second iteration of the Weapon Program and Fury is the one who took it.

Well, there you go -- though I must admit to feeling horribly disappointed they felt the need to do that (but then again, they did Loeb the setting so I shouldn;t be surprised). Well, that does make it more likely we might see him as part of the HCs then.

My fav is the 1973 version with Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch, Richard Chamberlain, Michael York, Charlton Heston, and Faye Dunaway. So frigging good! I really need to get it and it's sequel on dvd soon.

"Okay, so we'll make an action movie. And put in an airship, 'cause the steampunk BS kids like that. And ninjas, too, 'cause, y'know, ninjas. And we'll use the names from The Three Musketeers to get peoples' attention."

This is dollar theater fodder, for me.

Huh? This is the Three Musketeers by Dumas? Like the Disney version and the 60's or 70's version of it.
